Default Pro Trailer backup Assist--reviews please

Let me start by saying I am no expert on backing up a trailer but I find the PTBA more difficult than not using it. I found that it has a delayed response and when it does respond it over responds. I'm sure there is a learning curve but it is not as simple as the commercials make it look. What has been your experience for those that have used it?

I love it. I don't use it often but when I do it's great. The ramp I use for borrowing the inlaws boat is really narrow and for someone who doesn't tow very often it's pretty handy. It definitely takes a light touch. I don't think I ever really turn the dial past the 11 or 1 o'clock positions on the dial.

I am not sure how anyone uses it with a trailer that has a tongue jack. I have an electric tongue jack and the distance required puts the propane tanks in the way. Next up the jack will block the camera from one side. I think it could only be useful for a utility trailer...but even our utility trailer has a tongue jack albeit smaller than an electric one. So far, i tried setting up the PTBA but it was miserable....so for me it is a gimmick.

I'm sure you'll get responses that are love it or hate it. If you have been backing trailers very much you probably don't need it. If you don't have much experience backing a trailer then it can be quite useful. Turn the **** the direction you want the trailer to go. The PTBA is pretty sensitive so it does a little twist of the **** is all it takes. I don't use it but I have it set up in case my wife or daughter have to use it. Practice will definitely perfect your skill whether you use PTBA or the old-fashioned method.

I set up my 5x8 mesh landscape trailer. Cannot get the backup assist to turn sharp enough to back the trailer into a driveway. I've checked my measurements 3x but its no better. Haven't been to the dealer yet, anyone else have this problem with theirs?

I was able to set it up on my travel trailer even with an electric jack and propane tanks. Just wanted to see how it worked. I think the only thing I like about it is that backing up a long distance in a straight line is very easy now. Besides that though I never use it.

Great for long straight distances. I find it unnatural in tighter spaces.

It is more trouble than it is worth with my 23' travel trailer, but I would not be able to back my utility trailer without it. I can't even SEE my utility trailer behind my truck.

As far as delayed response and over responding, that just means you are trying to back it up too fast. Slow down.

I have the same problem with my 5x8. I guess it's due to the trailer being so short.
