Possible Sunroof Creaking/rattle fix!
#21
I have about 3000 miles on my 17 Lariat and I am now hearing a rattle. Is this something I should take to my dealer for a warranty issue or should I attempt this fix?? I know this may be a loaded question. I'm just looking for suggestions.
I'm also wondering if you could post a picture of the tape you used and where to put it?

I think it would be great if someone who has done this fix would make a quick video or take some pictures of the "felt" being installed.
When you live in rain country this is not something you want to do wrong. Driving around with a blue tarp on top of my truck is not going to be a pretty thing.

I actually had the factory tsb performed on mine and it stayed quiet for 2 weeks. After the squeaking returned I noticed the dealer used a blue lube. The factory specifies Dupont krytox which is clear. Frustrated, I cleaned all the seals with rubbing alcohol and lubed them with the krytox. I followed the tsb procedure exactly as written. That was on July 2. So far, not a single noise from the roof ( knocking on wood).
I'm sure the procedure will need to be done again, bit it's not a big deal, especially if it lasts several months.

I did the TSB procedure last week and it worked for me ... no more rattle. It's an easy procedure; even if I have to repeat some time in the future, I won't mind as it took about 15 minutes total and there's no disassembly. The Krytox grease is expensive, but the little tube I bought would probably be good for 2 maybe 3 fixes. According to DuPont's site, it's a grease designed specifically for elimination of squeaks and rattles and is effective in a wide range of temp extremes. It may come in handy as the interior ages and more squeaks show up there.

For those who have done this fix, what exactly have you used? I hear some in this thread say felt and in the video it says rubber?. Still confused as to where exactly I need to put either. Is it actually rubbing above the tab or where the tab bolts to the frame? Any additional help would be great. Rattle has gotten substantially worse after the truck was in to replace the moonroof track when it was stuck in the open position. My guess is they removed the whole window to replace the track and when they bolted it back in it made it way worse.

Also what size felt or rubber did you guys use? I hoped in the back of the truck to look at the tabs and it doesnt look like anything is rubbing or close to rubbing so that is why I am confused about where exactly the felt goes. Any help would be much appreciated. I will most likely do a step by step with photos or maybe even video once I have this figured out.
