Default Platinum white tri-coat paint

I ordered this color and will pay the extra $595, but I'm wondering if anyone knows why this color is more expensive. I found a few articles online, but nothing that really answers the question. Is it simply 3 coats of paint? Is it more durable?

Figured someone here would know....

Default Platinum paint

I believe the additional cost is associated with the additional cost of the pearl paint, the additional steps to apply it, and the wow factor. Other car brands charge a premium for this color as we'll. this is just my 2 cents not supported through research. It is an amazing color that never shows any scratches and looks amazing in the sun.

I wonder why this colour is not available on the Lariat sport package? :-(

it's a gorgeous color...def worth it IMO. looks great in the sun. the blue flakes pop. I keep mine under multiple coats of waxes/sealants. Love the pop.

Standard colors such as tuxedo black Oxford white, Sterling Gray, etc. are basecoat(color) /clear coat= 2 stage

Platinum white, is a Tri stage pearl color.

With a solid white ground coat, then topped with a transparent pearl coat, then clear coat= 3 stage. Extra materials, more labor, and pearl tints make it more expensive.

Not more durable by any means. Same as any other color in terms of durability

Default Sport package color

History has shown that the white platinum color is exclusively associated with the high end models and the lariat sport (blacked out) styling doesn't really say luxury.
That being said, I wish that it did because I love the blacked out grill and love that color!!

Do some perceive this color to be "girly", honest question I'm struggling with. I like the Black and tri coat White but Black is a PIA to keep clean, the White hides a little more and looks great in the sun but I've heard some refer to it as girly. Thoughts?

I had a 2011 White XLT and traded it in for a 2012 Platinum White Lariat...and SHE LOVES IT. The paint color choice made it a bit more expensive to paint the fender flairs also after the Lift/Tire/Wheel change...!!!

First time I have ever heard someone call this color girly. I think its one of the best colors you can get. And check out all the f250 and up platinum white tri coat trucks that people have built, there is nothing girly about them.

The color has been in Fords pallete for over 2 decades. It used to be called Opalescent Clear coat Metallic and was a $595 option in the 90s... Commonly referred to as pearl white.... My Thunderbird was that color.
