Default Plasti Dip vs Painting Emblem

I'm having a platinum grille painted tuxedo black to match my Lariat sport (because I hate the Lariat grille). I'm wondering what you guys think I should do about the emblem.

I'm thinking I can have the paint shop do the emblem to match.

I could also try plasti dipping it myself, maybe with some glossifier. This way I could peel the actual ford lettering off.

Just curious which might work better. Never actually plasti dipped anything myself, however it doesn't look that hard.

Plastidip it first to make sure you like the emblem black. If you don't, you cant just peel it right back off. The only this with platidip is to make sure you pull the masking off right away. If the plasidip starts to dry, it will peel off with the tape you used to mask it off. There is no need to sand or anything like that. Just wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol or degreaser to make sure it adheres properly.

That came out very nice RedX. I talked to the guys painting my grille and they said they could mask the emblem for me so I'm having it done tux black. I hope it comes out that well.

Would love to see a picture when you get the grill done. I have been considering doing the same grill swap.

Do you plasti dip the whole emblem then take a exacto knife and trim the lettering out? Or is there another process to it?

How well does plastic-dip hold up to stone chips and small road debris? Especially on the front of the truck. I'm really thinking about plasti-dipping the rims of my truck.

For sure. I'm actually picking up my new truck tomorrow (Monday) however I don't think the grille will be ready then. Maybe a week or so.
If anyone is interested here is a link to the 2015 F150 Platinum Grille with the hole for the camera I ordered: http://stores.revolutionparts.com/ta...3z%2A8200%2Aua (emblem sold separately)

As I understand it you just need to use a toothpick or plastic putty knife or something since the plasti-dip is almost like a balloon material when dried. Anything that won't hurt the paint (or dip).

This is a good question. I've seen it used for rims all over youtube, however most of the time it is on cars not trucks. There was one guy on here who did the rims on his 2015 though. I guess the best part is if it does chip you can just peel it and respray. A can of the stuff is like $15.
