Pistol mount

Old Fart
I have seen in the forum a picture of one member who had his pistol in a holster clipped on the lip of the trim below the steering wheel. I suspect that it was an inside the waist belt holster using the belt clip. Not sure how well that would stay put and I might want to clear the chamber for fear of an accidental discharge into my big toe in an extreme braking action.
I have a galco iwb holster that I am tempted to try that with.

One of the biggest PITAs of carrying is that the average off the shelf holster can dig into your hip when you sit in the car. That leaves you with the choice of removing the firearm from your person, awkwardly twisting your shirt into a cushion between your skin and the holster, or driving uncomfortably. Many people asking for something like this aren't looking for the proverbial gun rack so much as they are a place to temporarily secure their firearm while they're in the vehicle, with the intention of putting it back in the holster as soon as they leave. This is a bigger deal for people who have to drive through unpleasant areas on a daily basis. The seat belt can make it difficult to draw, and locking the firearm in a glove box makes it completely useless for an unexpected incident.
^^^This... I have a nice alien gear iwb holster that I like, but I carry usually around the 5 o'clock position which makes for a difficult quick grab if needed. Looking for ideas on a holster or clip of some sort that I can mount in my truck, then when entering I will unholster from my body and put in the truck. Then when I exit I will re holster to my body again. I have no problem moving my gun from my body to my truck then back again. Just with me carrying under my clothes I have no good access when belted in.

i looked at those yesterday, I have an iwb alien gear holster and love it, but it is far from easy to remove and install the holster quickly. I considered just buying that setup to leave in the truck, just not real sure where I would want to mount it.

I am thinking of getting this though to hold it a little better:

I carry at around 4:30 with either a Galco King Tuck (IWB) or a leather holster OWB. Either way it is comfortable even on very long drives. It is a little more difficult to draw, but I have practiced doing it so not bad. If you mount it where it is easily accessible you are losing concealment, if you have it concealed you lose ease of access. You also need to check local laws, some states require it be concealed.

However, check reciprocity laws, most other states it is required. Like here in Michigan to have a gun loaded in your vehicle you need your CCL. If not and say your just going to the range, your gun must be unloaded and locked away from your reach. So like in the trunk, or a gun safe in the vehicle. Ammo must be separated from the gun so it should be in the cab.
We have open carry laws where if your gun is out in the open and holstered you are free to carry as long as it is in plain site. However say you had a shirt or coat or something that partially covered it then that's a felony. It's not a bad process to go through to get your CCL, we are a Shall Issue state but it does help weed out some bad eggs.
However, our surrounding states all have different laws on this. For example up until last year or year before if I went to like Iowa, I had to stop in Indiana, put my gun in a gun vault drive through Illinois then I could take it out. They recently changed that where I can have it on me in my vehicle but not outside of the vehicle.

I bent up some 1/8" kydex to hang on the console lid to hang my IWB holster in. The gun is where I can comfortable draw it and out of plain sight when I'm in the seat. Allows me to use my IWB holster and take both with me when I step out of the truck or to quickly flip it over into the console if I can't take it with me.
