Performance ? 3.5 Eco vs 5.0
About a year ago I drove a brand new 2013 Ford 150 Platinum with a 3.5 Ecoboost. The manager of the dealership is my brother in law and he claimed the 3.5 Ecoboost was faster than my 2007 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7V8. After driving the Platinum I asked him if he would be willing to bet the titles on the vehicle that my Tundra was faster in the 0-60 than his Ecoboost.
I googled the 0-60 on the ecoboost and the range of 0-60 runs from 6.1 seconds all the way to 8.1 The Tundra range is from 6.0 - 6.7.
Can anyone give me the real scoop? I am looking to get rid of the Tundra for numerous reasons and I going to order a 2015 Ford 150. I seldom tow or trailer anything substantial, but I love to drive fast.
Would the 3.5 Ecoboost with the 3.55 rear end beat a 5.0 with a 3.73 rear end on a 0-60.

EB with 3.73 FTW over a Tundra all day long as long as you do a boosted 4 wheel launch. Just my personal experience. I do run 91 octane for the extra power (est: 380hp/ 430lb-ft from a Ford engineer). The 3.55 will definitely slow your 0-60 times. With the reduced weight in the 2015's , I expect a 3.5EB to hang with the new 6.2L GM's which is the current factory hot rod champ.

Get the 3.5EB and then hand $700 to 5* tuning and I guarantee your truck will spank every naturally aspirated Toyota out there. And they offer power-train warranty too for peace of mind on tuning a new truck.
The Ecoboost is a beast with a performance tune.

Logan, Would 5* tuning void my warranty and what kind of a bump in horsepower and torque are we looking at after the tune?

Well the $700 includes their power train warranty. If you go on their website you can find all the details about what is covered and what isn't.
As for the power gains I don't have any actual Dino numbers but guys are claiming over 430HP and well over 500TQ. With the 93 Performance tune.

It's pretty much a drivers race from a dig. I had an '09 Tundra 5.7 and now have a '12 ecoboost. I have raced equally equiped Tundra's since purchasing the F-150 and I usually with a boosted launch get them out of the hole but they pull back even on top by 85-90. My Tundra always seemed quicker when rolling and getting on the throttle to pass(no turbo lag). I don't care what anyone else here says if your ecoboost is stock you have a little bit of lag.

^ yep, same thing I see. Remember, by 90mph that's about the end of a 1/4 mile run. Most stoplight races go 1/8 if you're lucky. If the OP wants and quick 0-60 truck, the F150 EB should get the tundra every time due to more torque. The torque gets the weight moving. HP brings on the big end.
