People Running 295/60r20s a Couple Questions before I Buy
Hey Everyone,
Recently got rid of my 2005 and picked up a 2016 Fx4 Sport. Really digging the ride and comfort on this truck
Just as I did promptly after buying the 2005 I'm ready to swap out the tires and do a level.
The AS 2.5 is in the mail I just need some confirmation on the tire size. I previously ran 275 60 20 on the 05 which I actually really liked but after a while once the tread was wearing down they looked a little small. So, that being said I want to run 295 60's on the new rig...
Can anyone clarify a couple questions for me before I drop alot of coin?
1. Is anyone running 295/60r20 MT's on stock 20's? Specifically the Cooper STT's? Should I be worried about any rubbing issues? I read that the crash bars can cause an issue on this body style. I see the MT's are about 1/2inch wider and taller than an A/T in the same size.
2. Who is running all terrains in 295/60r20s. Same concerns as above. Any rubbing or modification needed?
The Stt's are cheaper than any of the A/T's right now so thats why im considering them. Never ran an MT before but now living .8 miles from work Im not concerned about highway use so I think im prepared to try them.
Ive researched for 3 days and cant find a straight answer in terms of the new 2015/16 bodystyle and rubbing in this size tire. It seems this size was of little issue for the previous bodystyles so i want to make sure that holds true for this style as well before purchasing.
I really really appreciate any insight.

I had that size on my last truck which was a 2015 platinum raised 2" in the front by an Icon stage 2 kit and didn't rub at all. My tires were Toyo AT2 extremes and I don't know the actual size difference between them and the Cooper state's
I had the oem platinum wheels also

I run 305/55/20 on my Readylift 2.25" level and have no rubbing with +30 offset rims. I have a buddy with same lift running 295/60/20 with +18 offset and he gets some very minor rubbing at full and near full lock turns. Not bad enough that he has done anything about it though. These are both 2015 4x4s running AT tires.
So bottom line is that it depends on wheel offset, with being closer to the stock offset resulting in less chance of rubbing.

Thanks for the reply. I'm researching the stock offset for the 6 spoke sport 20s right now to try and compare to your buddys setup. toyo at2 is about .4 shorter and i think .3 skinnier than the Cooper STT so I think if he was running coopers he would be rubbing pretty good which is my concern. I might just have to go A/T as I see a few guys running them around here.
Anyone actually running an MT in 295/60r20 on stock without issues?
Thanks

I just upgraded to the 295/60/20 Cooper STT Pro's last week on my stock 20" Sport wheels. About 4 months ago I had put a set of 275/65/20 BFG KO2's on there that are currently sitting in my garage for sale. The reason being, for the first time EVER in my many years of customizing my vehicles, I had those tires installed when my 2.5" Rough Country level was installed, and when I picked up my truck, my immediate reaction was "well crap, that doesn't look right at all." From the side the 275's looked fine, but from the front and back they look super skinny. I added 1" wheel spacers to give it a wider stance, but still hated the way it looked.
Fast forward to last week and ebay had a $100 off $400+ coupon (good through today) for discount tire direct. I placed 2 orders for 2 tires each to save $200, so total price for the upgrade: $1078.00 shipped to my door. The upgrade was absolutely worth it. The truck looks great now. I initially left the 1" spacers on, but the 295's rubbed really bad when in reverse, even before full lock on the steering. The day after install I removed them and problem solved.
Just be prepared to take a major hit on your gas mileage with the 295's. From stock I lost about 4 mpg, and lost about 1.5 mph from the 275 BFG's. It just takes a lot more to get all that rubber rolling!

I wonder with the 295/65 if they would look crammed in there? Its such a fine balance getting the right look.

I can't comment in the cooper's but I run 295 60r20 nitto trail graps on a 20x9 inch wheel with a +18 offset. They did rub the front crash bars and you won't be able to use mud flaps with them installed. Removed the bars for now and mud flaps were forcefully removed by the tire.

Would love to see pics of your STT Pros on the stock 20's.
