Agreed with Rick. Some people seem oblivious, others are simply asking questions. Either way, nobody's nitpicking or being the weight police. People come here posting weights and such, and other, like myself, will point out if they are close or over a limit. Not judging them, just letting them know because they might not honestly know. Most people hitch and go assuming their truck can tow anything. After you've been informed, it's up to you what you do with your truck. But yes, there is the occasional person towing 4000 over their limit, they know it, and they don't care, and yes those people are truly d-bags for driving around on a public road knowing that they're endangering all the other drivers around them. That's just a fact.

You have to keep in mind that unless you have upgraded your trailer tires, they are probably only rated for 65 mph.

I would have to agree with OP, although some make emphasis on this topic…. I’ve felt the hostility bleeding thru my screen while reading some responses to other’s inquiries…. Yes it good to be informed but to come off attacking b/c the roads are shared with others…

Cant say Ive always stayed within the limits of my vehicle. I also know when too much IS to much.

I bet many knowledged “weight police” on here that tow/haul probably have gone beyond the ratings themselves but come on here, blow a gasket when they find that someone has gone beyond it by whatever lb.

Why the emphasis on load or cargo capacity?

Because it’s a key factor in a pleasant tow instead of feeling like work, straining when towing.

HUGE factor in single axle trailers where they list a trailer GVWR that exceeds the trailer GAWR by weight they assume the tow vehicle is carrying. For example, my 2019 Wolf Pup 16BHS is rated 3877 GVWR BUT has a 3500# rated axle. The maker assumed you would have 377# tongue weight carried by the truck. I’ve had near 600# TW with full water. (BTW, I have new 5000# rated springs on order to replace the current flat 3500 springs)

You do get a lot of “born again” types craving to pass their new found knowledge.

Trucks sold worldwide used in places without ready repair and parts sources seem to be built with likely overloading and abuse in mind and are rated with more of a safety margin. There’s many reasons small Toyota trucks are a warlord’s choice for a “technical”, a mobile machine gun carrier.
