Panoramic Moonroof, is it worth the issues?

The brightness of the cab was what sold me on getting this completely unnecessary truck lol. I fell in love with it at an auto show. That and the decent mileage from the 2.7 found me selling my sports sedan for this beast. I may end up getting a US extended warranty though (I'm in Canada) to give me a little peace for the next few years - already had a warranty claim on a rubbing shock, plus half a dozen recalls.

Hi everyone! I bought a 2016 Lariat last month and it has the panoramic moonroof. While on the test drive I asked the salesperson to show me how it works. She tried to open it and it jammed on her. We got back to the dealership and while we were inside another salesman went out and did 'something' to get it working. Fine. It works, I bought the truck.
A week later I tried opening the moonroof and it stuck again. One corner was dipped down and it wouldn't do anything. I came in here and did some reading, then got some silicone spray and a putty knife and sprayed the seal between the two pieces of glass. I ran the putty knife down between the seals to get them unstuck and was able to get the window to raise up via the switch, but it would not retract.
After another week trying to contact the service manager that my salesperson referred me to, I ended up just making an appointment with the person who answered the phone and dropped it off last Friday. They wrote it up as a TSB repair. I just asked for it to be fixed.
Today I called and finally spoke with the sales manager handling the issue. His first words were something about a deductible. I said that wasn't my concern. I stated that it was a CPO vehicle and that the moonroof was not working correctly on the test drive when operated by the salesperson, I never touched it. I just wanted to know how much longer they would need to fix it. I was polite but firm and never even entertained the notion of paying a deductible or any charge of any type. He said it will be done by Thursday and he would handle the paperwork.

Panoramic Moonroof
Sounds like you bought yours from the same guy I got mine from. Mine ending up costing me $2400.00. Ford wouldn't even reply to my letter about the dealer.Oh well I am at
an age that I hope this is my last one. Good luck!

Actually he was quite nice about it once he figured out that it was broken before I bought it and I was confident in my position that I wasn't responsible for the cost. The dealership has made themselves quite a good reputation in the 8-9 years they have been here. This is my first time buying from them and so far I've been impressed.
But yeah, as soon as I realized how expensive they are to fix I absolutely was going to hold the dealership responsible. I just spent over $36K on a used vehicle and they are the ones who offered it as a CPO.

Picked up my truck today, good as new.
They also performed another TSB for me regarding the door locks. Wasn't aware of it and not sure what they did but it's done. Wasn't charged a dime and they even ran it through the car wash for me.

My pano roof is fine...no issues at all. Never had a problem...so they must all be fine right?
Or thats sort of the culture on here...
But serious, no problems with my pano roof.

Best wishes to you. I suggest doing the recommended maintenance, cleaning and greasing once or twice a year.

My roof use to stick until it broke the track. That was replaced under warranty and yes the roof still got stuck after the repair. I learned that the seal itself was sticking, especially when it was hot out so I sprayed all of the seals with dry type silicone spray and that solved the sticking issues. All is fine now.

Always vent the roof before opening and sliding back. That, combined with once or twice a year lubricating the seal and you should be good to go.
Personally, I won't have a truck without a moonroof. I love them.

Not sure I’d buy a truck if roof or any major components failed during a test drive. May you have many trouble free miles.
Problems happen with anything. I’d never own a vehicle sans pano.
