Im sure I am missing something..
The older trucks didn't rust much under the bedliner. They were constantly being sandpapered! IMHO there are only a few reasons people would need or consider a plastic bedliner. None of them apply to me.

Are you joking? I remember a buddy with a 95 F350 back around 2000...For graduation, he wanted to make a swimming pool in his truck. We had to get a tarp...because it, too, wasn't sealed.

I mean do you really want a water-tight bed? I honestly don't get it.

There is a difference between a bed with weep holes to drain, and the huge gaps in these aluminum beds. With weep holes water and road grime wont get up in the bed like it does with the huge gaps. When I put the topper on mine, the bed was clean, when I went to put the Bedrug in a few weeks later, it was filthy, so the only way that it would have gotten that dirty was through the gaps. You should not be able to see the road through the sides of the bed like you can on these.

Hoping the well liners keep the majority of that road grime out of hte bed now and out from under the bedrug.

I've never owned a pickup truck that didn't leak water/dirt/dust through the tailgate. Ford/Chevys didn't matter. You have to seal it yourself if you want to prevent that.

I re-read what I posted, can't see anything in there about the tail gate. Mine is sealed, so the only place road grime can come from are the 1/4" gaps between the bed sides and floor.

I put a camper shell on my bed and ordered a bed liner through O'Reily Auto Parts for only $187 plus tax, free shipping. That's got to be the best deal in town, considering I live in Hawaii. My truck is yet to be shipped to me from San Diego but when it's here, the bed liner will be waiting with tail gate cover and installation hardware. Problem solved. Hope this helps.
