opinions on leaving Ford due to price
Hey guys,
So all I've ever driven have been Fords. My family has even owned a Ford dealership for many years at one point. In looking at the price to replace my 2010 Lariat with a new 2015 Lariat, and looking at the lack of rebates; I can't help but browse other makes.
I took a spin in a ram 1500 laramie with hemi, and while it was wicked fast, the truck was just a let down in my opinion. It was soooooo bulky and suffocating. I then took a drive in a similarly equipped GMC Sierra 1500 SLT with the 5.3. I thought it drove every bit as good as the 5.0L, but the cabin and some features weren't quite as nice as the Ford.
My problem is, with GMC rebates right now, I can buy a similar GMC for $4,000 less than the identical F150 version. Has anybody heard about the GM ecotec3 engines having scar problems because of running dry when in 4 cylinder mode?
Don't get me wrong, the f150 is a nicer truck, but as far as my research shows; the f150 and sierra get about the same mpg (5.3 to the 5.0 or 3.5 EB). With similar creature comforts, I really wonder if the F-150 is worth $4,000+ more (doubtful rebates will pick up soon)

no big discounts for a while since the f150 is a brand new design. hard to compare prices. u could probably find a killer deal on a 14 if u want to stay with ford

For 8-9% higher I would go with what I really liked. If you really like the 8-9% higher F150. The interiors are just nicer in the f150's, not plastically like the GM's. Not sure if plastically is a word. Never looked in a ram because I don't care for the exterior look.

I would say if you liked the GMC and were happier with the price, why not go with it?? They are fine trucks too (not as good as Ford in MHO). Have not heard anything with scaring, don't see how it would for the oil is still getting circulated.
GM is set to switch to aluminum also, think I read for model year 18. Several advantages using aluminum besides the weight.
Don't see the 15 rebates going up much till maybe this summer and then maybe just a $1,000 more. They were late getting their new product out and I'm sure it cost them some sales but for now, dealers can't keep them on their lots.
Finances are finances and you know what you can or can't do. I think the Tundra is a very good truck also and is about $3-4k cheaper.
If you can wait till fall you could probably do a lot better but doubt it will ever get to the price of the GMC.
You notice the trucks that don't sell as well are the ones with the big rebates.
Good luck!

I've been doing the same research. IMO the Rams have a great interior but I'm not a fan of the front end...too rounded and the grill is dated. I'm coming out of a Yukon SLT so I checked out the Sierra Denalis and my dad's 2014 SLT. Nice trucks but simply don't offer the same features as the new F150s. Didn't go by the Chevy dealer since their grill looks worse than the Ram. In the end I decided it's worth it to spend the extra to get things like push button start, twin panel sunroof, LEDs, remote tailgate, etc. I do wish Ford had planned ahead with Sync 3. It's pretty frustrating knowing later this year they will refresh the system and trying to decide between ordering now vs waiting on a 16 with the new computer.
Regardless, I think I'm going to put in my order and just rip/replace when they unvaile BlackBerrySync
