Default Opinions: 2015 Platinum or 2018 XLT

Hey Guys,

First post here but have been lurking for a while. I appreciate all the great info.

Back in March we ordered a 2018 F150 XLT SuperCrew, 3.5L, 5.5' box in Guard Metallic. Pretty much fully loaded for an XLT, 302A, FX4, Max Tow, BLIS, Moonroof etc. Delivery date was set for 6/2 however with the plant shut downs our dealer is now telling us it most likely will be pushed 2 to 3 weeks and possibly further. When we ordered the truck we were told to expect 8--12 weeks. We planned some trips this summer based on a 13 week delivery time. With the new delivery dates pushed so far some of our trips are in limbo (dealer held trade in at a set $ based on not going over a XXX mileage). Truck is being built at the KC plant, per the news it sounds like they will be back up and running on Monday.

Dealer called today to give us the option of purchasing a recent trade in, a 2015 F150 Platinum SuperCrew, 3.5L, 5.5' box in Guard Metallic with Brunello leather with 25k miles. This thing has all the same options (FX4, Max Tow, BLIS, Moonroof) plus a ton others (701A package), that we originally wanted but couldn't afford, we didn't want to step up to the Lariat with the incentives on the XLT's.

We can get the Platinum for $4k less than what we were going to pay for the 2018 XLT. I've read a few of the issues with the 2015's but nothing that really turns me away for grabbing it rather than the 2018.

Kind of at a crossroads on which way to go. Thoughts?

I'd go for the Platinum as long as you can verify no previous mods, no previous paintwork, clean Carfax and autocheck, and a verified service history. If it still has some warranty remaining be sure anything needing to be addressed gets done quickly. Great miles on a '15.

I have 15 platinum love it. But come September my bumper to bumper warranty runs out. You would still have the power train but that's something to think about

If we purchased the 2015 Platinum we would be looking at possibly also buying the extended bumper to bumper warranty.

You won't be getting the Sync3 communications system with the 2015. That would make a difference to me.

I was in a similar scenario, not an option heavy person but what made my decision was the interest rate was less than half the points on my new truck and I didn’t “have” to put money down.

.
Wait for the new truck.
Have the dealer " adjust " the mileage agreement,..................due to Ford's inability to deliver when promised, which isn't your fault. Go on vacation & have a good time !!!
