Default Oops! I put 5w30 in my truck. Is it gonna be ok?

I have a 2015 5.0 with 25K miles. I live in a hot climate area and it has been in the 90's during the day. Nevertheless, I changed my oil today myself and mistakingly put 5w30 motorcraft semi synthetic in it. Should I drain it and put 5w20 or willI I be ok till next oil change (5K miles)?

Won't hurt a bit. Cost a tiny bit of MPG. It's CAFE standards that drive the lighter weight oils.

I Googled it for you.
"The higher the numbers, the heavier/thicker the oil and less ability it has to flow. ... Thus, both oils have the same design viscosity when cold, but the 5W20 thins out more when hot compared to the 5W30. In actuality, because of colloidal properties, the 5W20 is slightly thinner when cold compared to the 5W30 also"

You'll be fine, especially in your warm climate.

Wont hurt, but its a 20.00 buck change out if you are going to loose sleep!

I put 5w20 in my 2017 2.7L the first time I changed the oil at 10k. Changed it again at 20k and put 5w30 in it. Wife’s explorer takes 5w20, I just got the jugs mixed up. Now I just run 5w30 in both. No issues with either vehicle.

Thanks for. the replies. Been looking it up also and it seems it should be ok esp with the hot temps outside.

I'd prefer 5w-30 I'd think, thinner is usually only to scrape up that tiny last bit of efficiency. Especially in a warm climate it should be more than fine.

I ran 5w30 in my 2015 5.0 from new until I sold it about 6 months ago. Ford recommends 5w30 and 5w50 in the mustangs for track use anyway, depending on year.

Mike, what are you driving since you sold your whippled 5.0 truck?
