I think the Plasma Transferred Wire Arc technology they use for the bore is not working out like they had hoped. Look at the oil consumption issues the GT350 has been having since the tech was introduced way back in 2015. The 2017 Model 5.0 with the sleeved cylinders is the stronger engine surprisingly. The extra injectors definitely makes the whole engine feel more "ticky" but I still love it. So far with 1600 miles I am experiencing no issues but only time will tell.

Or a GM with DFM. Who knows what issues might show up with that. I wouldn’t want to be a guienne pig on that motor

im glad I got the 17 too, I just dislike my front end, I much prefer the front end of the 18, but that can all get changed too something different, minor, beats not having a truck lol

Lol, I actually prefer the 15-17 front. Its the 09-14 that look hideous to me, front and rear.

9800 on my 18 5.0, no oil consumption, no off throttle rattle, engine is noisy at idle and the tranny pops on every shift in tow or sport mode. Build date 9/2017

Some people have problems with oil consumption that just a fact. Another fact is engines tend to burn a little oil when they are breaking in. I wouldn't worry about oil burn till about 8000 miles unless it just ridiculous. Mine had burnt about a quart in about 5000 miles and i added one quart and since then i have not noticed any oil loss. unit currently has 17000 miles

Exclamation

its called AFM, not DFM (Active Fuel Management - - a fancy word for cylinder deactivation)

I heard the EB were problematic but didn’t think the 5.0 was
why are you stuck on a less powerful engine, that is less desirable on the used market and happens to be less reliable at the moment. the 5.0 is becoming only about 5% of what ford is selling now.

If these engines needed breaking in after leaving the lot there would be a lot more issues. Engines don’t seal up at 8,000 miles.

The 2015 F150 XL Sport 5.0 6spd automatic 4x4 3.55 SCAB I bought new used NO oil EVER and had power to spare! It did make a very slight rattle on very light acceleration between about 15-25MPH pulling a load from from a stop since the time it was new but never gave a moments trouble. It also gave me 14-15mpg towing and 24mpg not towing on a regular basis. It was an awesome truck - so much so I ordered a new 2019 F150 Lariat with the 5.0 10spd 4x4 3.55 SCAB and it has been perfect so far - no odd noises and ZERO oil use or leaks - BUT it has only been driven a little over 500 miles. I plan to change the oil at 1000 miles with full synthetic like I do with all my new cars (there have been many) and I have never had any car that used any oil between changes that I bought new. This includes Chrysler, Fiat, Chevrolet, Suzuki, Ford, Jeep, Subaru,,,, I know there are always bad ones in the bunch but the odds are the good ones outnumber the bad ones 100 to 1. I say buy what you like or want - everything has positives and negatives - everything is a compromise in one way or another - life is too short to worry about what if...
