Default Oil quantity,grade and brand

Hi everyone , I just bought a 2018 XLT Supercrew cab with the V8 5.0 engine about 3 weeks ago. Am I reading the manual correctly that it takes 8.8 quarts of oil and also they recommend 5-20w oil. The owners manual is very poorly written on all subjects! Is 8.8 quarts correct for the 5.0 engine and also I find that 5-20w oil is also very thin. Can you tell me if I can use a thicker oil such as 10-30 oil and also what brand oil are you all using. Any info on this subject is appreciated! Thanks.

Why do you think the owner's manual is incorrect or poorly written? 5W-20 is the viscosity for all NA Ford engines and has been for a long time. Why do find it 'very thin'? As for brand, it matters little, though everyone thinks whatever they use is the best. Just put synthetic in it and find something else to fret about.

It’s actually 8.8 quarts of 5W-20 or 0W-20 (extreme cold weather).

Check out the castrol 0w 20 from Wally World for $25 for 5 quarts. It’s a true full Synthetic and a great bargain with a super low pour point. I run 0w spec oil in all my rigs from Subaru and T150. Haven’t decided for the 3.5 eco but probably will in the winter

Except that page 437 is for the 3.5...

But page 441 has it also.

But that's -22 F.
