Default Oil Filter Thread Pitch

I will apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. I am trying to piece together a remote oil filter kit. I understand that my 2015 3.5 Ecoboost uses an oil filter that has 22mm x 1.5 threads. So I ordered a spin on adapter from Flocool that is labeled "M22x1.5". It would start but immediately start to cross thread. My question is, is there a difference between 22mm x 1.5 thread pitch and the M22x1.5 thread pitch. As a side note Flocool customer service had very little sympathy for me. They told me I could send it back on my dime if I wanted a refund.

Is it cross threading? I believe the threaded stud is tapered.

Not necessarily cross threading but it is trying to “spread” or widen the threads on the spin on adapter.

Well with an M in front it should mean metric and the ford one is not.

Is the one "flocool" sent you the correct thread pitch? Sounds like they are not so cool. A label is a label and means nothing. Why not call a few auto parts stores or the dealer and ask if they have a nipple you could try.

I agree a label is a label. But Flocool was of no help at all. I tend to agree with the idea that there is a M22x1.5 metric threads and the 22mm x 1.5 coarse thread but I do not know that for sure. I am definitely confused.

That is what I was getting at with flocool. Look up your oil filter on Rockauto bring up the info page for a Wix filter and for a Fram filter they give the filter specs. Wix is M22 x 1.5 while Fram lists 22mm x 1.5 so I don't think there is a difference.

You need to check the thread on the adapter you have. Then tell Flocool they sent you the wrong part.

I found this too, a tap chart that gives the specs for the thread pitch. M22 x 1.5 is how the tap is referred.

It's possible that Ford uses a modified thread design to discourage aftermarket oil filter sales, they may have designed it so that the industry standard M22-1.5 thread won't fit. Perhaps you have a machine shop near you that has the taps and dies for M22-1.5 thread, they could examine a filter and your FloCool part and see what the difference is. If the Flocool part is machined incorrectly then maybe they could correct it, or re-thread another FloCool part to fit.
