Oil change % and towing
Does the algorithm within the ford % oil life remaining thingy take into account added trailer engine workload?
It always seems to know when trailer is connected.
I dont tow more than about 2000lb trailer plus about 1200lb in truck.

According to the sticky that Rick posted, They have an Intelligent oil life monitor. Complete with a link to the Ford site all about it.

I stopped going by the IOLM several years ago due to sludge issues with the motorcraft synblend.

Not 100% sure but the computer may also be able to calculate how heavy the trailer is. Cruise control uses an algorithm based on rate of acceleration to determine how much to open the throttle. Basically the computer expects to travel a certain amount of distance in a set amount of time. If that distance is not reached as expected the computer commands more throttle. It would not be hard to program the computer to access this algorithm when it sees a trailer is connected to determine the load it's towing even when you are not using cruise control.

[QUOTE=12B302;5373532]No. It will come on at 10k miles or 12 months, which ever comes first from when it was reset. There is nothing "intelligent" about it.
When to expect the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message
Vehicle use
Interval
Normal
Normal commuting with highway driving
No loading or towing, or moderate loads and towing
Flat to moderately hilly roads
No extended idling
7,500-10,000 miles (12,000-16,000 km)
Severe
Extended hot or cold operation
Moderate to heavy loads and towing
Mountainous or off-road conditions
Extended idling
5,000-7,499 miles (8,000-11,999 km)
Extreme
Extreme hot or cold operation
Maximum loads and towing
3,000-4,999 miles (4,800-7,999 km)

This is not correct. It will factor towing into it's calculations. If you mostly do highway driving with few short trips the computer will allow you to go to the maximum 10,000 mile interval. If you do short trips or a lot of city it will require more frequent oil changes. Frequent towing or towing heavy loads will also require more frequent oil changes.
