Default Oil change mess

I’ve tried searching the forum for ways to prevent a mess when changing the oil on my 2018 5.0 thanks to the bar going across right in front of the plug. First time I did it, made a giant mess. Looking for any ideas or tips to not flood the driveway with oil. Was thinking about a giant catch pan and then wrap the bar in foil to help alleviate the mess. What a PITA.

Best bet go with this. I am planning to get it. Man what a mess when changing oil. Just explodes once the oil plug is removed.

Someone posted this. Pretty cheap to make. I have not used it.

I always just shoved a small funnel between the oil pan and the sway bar, that was on my 14 screw 3.5. Have not had to change it yet on the 19 but I like this idea.

I use a 1/2 plastic gallon jug as a sort of funnel. I used an iced tea jug as they are pretty stiff plastic, but I'm sure a bleach bottle/windshield fluid or similar would work. I cut it in half top to bottom, leaving the cap area intact but removing the jug bottom. My improvised jug-funnel works better than a real funnel as it folds easily to insert it in place.

I have the RCI skid plate which adds to the difficulty in not making a mess. The 2 times I was on vacation and had the oil changed at an oil change place, they made a huge muddle/puddle/struggle - oil everywhere, even after I warned them to use a funnel and they chose to ignore me.

This simple mod is virtually free.

I suck mine out though the dipstick hole with a drill-driven pump. Pleanty of other alternative contraptions to suck it out exist. Empties right into the container to take for recycling. No mess whatsoever unless you screw it up. Yeah, it may leave a couple of ounces in the pan but for the convenience I can live with that. (IIRC from another thread, this will not work with the 2.7EB and maybe the 3.5EB as well. YMMV.)

I found the perfect way....pay someone else to change it. You honestly don't save that much money. Plus your time going to the parts store, changing it, disposing of the oil and the mess. Not worth my time any more.

Loosen the drain plug, pull it part way out of the drain hole, and hold it there. After most of the oil has drained, pull the plug all the way out.

I've just been letting it go everywhere and wipe it up when its done draining. Also dont like how the oil filter is with the little plastic channel and the hole thru the skid plate. Oil always seems to get in a crevice somewhere and drips for a while.

Free delivery from Walmart or Amazon if you don't want to go to a store and literally never happen to go somewhere that carries what you need so that you can have it ahead of time. I haven't owned a vehicle yet where driving to the shop and waiting for them takes less time than doing it myself.

Then I don't have to get online asking questions like the guy whose invoice shows the wrong weight oil but they say they put in something different that was right

I mean to each their own, but it shouldn't take longer if you have a spot where you can do it yourself.
