Initially when I went truck shopping, I wanted to get a fully loaded F150 because I was making pretty good money at that point. What I was unprepared for is just how expensive these things have gotten over the last few years. So I started looking at the Lariat instead of the Platinum I was initially going to get. The XL and XLT's were non-starters for me. My previous 4 F150's were all XLTs and as I was sitting in traffic more and more, I wanted more and more luxury features and the Lariat offered what I wanted at a price that I could live with.

All I wanted was an XLT SCAB in bronze fire 5.0L and a console shifter... That's all. tried to build it... nope. called ford customer service 3 different times... nope. Went to dealer. They didn't understand it but nope.. Dealer said I could get it in a Lariat. I really didn't need or want all the bells and whistles that came with it. Well I bit the bullet and ordered the Lariat with the 501A package. I am so happy I did! The truck has been great and now I'm a little spoiled and don't think I would back to an XLT.

I actually originally wanted and ordered a 2.7 EB XLT from one dealership, then went and drove a 3.5 EB Lariat 501A and bought it on the spot (with prior encouragement from my wife). I honestly didn't want/care for the niceties and technology the Lariat offers; at least I didn't think I did. But as my wife put it, "... this is your dream truck and you'll be in it for many years, so get something you're going to really enjoy being in regularly." I'm glad I listened to her. The 3.5 has been amazing and all the little features really add up to a nice experience overall. So, basically I chose the Lariat because my wife convinced me that I deserve it and that some things (e.g. this vehicle purchase) are worth it in the bigger picture of life as we all know life is too short. The Platinum model, however, was just a bit overkill for me and I'm not a fan of the tailgate decor; IMHO the tailgate only looks good in the Ingot Silver paint scheme. The Lariat seems to hit the sweet spot for me.

I had a 13 Lariart and loved it, so I stayed with the same trim for my 16. Funny thing is my Lariat has the limited grill from the factory.

Stupid stupid stupid decision!

Just kidding! Did all the mods by myself, and you can tell how I'm absolutely 'hating' it!
