There is no reason for them not give you a great below invoice deal. By my math on the holdback, they still made a quick and easy $600 off me. And for what, clicking a few buttons in the FoMoCo order system.
The only thing they have some skin in the game if you back out of the deal. They would be stuck with whatever you ordered, which may or may not be something that sells well. Any dealer that does not have refundable downpayment will never see me!

I would have already ordered if it was like that.

I won't be ordering until later on in the fall or winter or maybe even spring at the latest, but I've finally decided on my build.
  • 502a SCrew 5'5"
  • Shadow black
  • Ebony interior
  • 3.5L Ecoboost w/10 speed
  • FX4 package
  • power-deployable running boards
  • power telescoping trailer tow mirrors
  • twin panel moonroof
  • 20" PVD chrome
  • BSW tire option

My current '15 has the tech package, max tow package, no power boards and no FX4. My list above is how I wish I would've ordered my truck in the first place. I don't need max tow and although the 360 camera in the tech package is a wicked cool piece of technology, I'd rather save the $1250.

Excited to try the new 3.5L Eco before ordering though. I feel like it's going to be wicked good.

I'm ordering my 2017 this winter. My birthday is in January and I think I'll order it as a birthday present for myself. After a lot of hemming and hawing I finally decided on a build.

Lariat SCab 163.7" WB
4x4
5.0 V8
500A package
Heavy Duty Payload
Trailer Tow
36 Gallon Tank
Inverter
Caribou Exterior
Camel Interior
Bench Seats
Tailgate Step

Eminently practical.

Then I'll spend next summer working on little upgrades like 275/70-18 tires, mid-rise topper, bed rug, RCI skidplates, 2 inch coilover level up front and add-a-leaf set in the back (want to maintain most of the factory rake but have the whole truck 1.5-2 inches higher), upfitter switches, and some aftermarket lighting.

Longtime lurker, first time poster. Finally got off the fence and decided to order a 2017 on 8/18. Now to the long wait. Details of the order:

Platinum 4x4 157" WB
3.5L Eco w/10 speed auto
701A Luxury package
FX4
3.55 E-locker
Max Trailer Tow
36 Gallon Tank
Tow Mirrors
Twin panel moonroof
Active park
Box side steps
Box Extender
Magnetic Color
Brunello leather

Next project is working on the list of mods.

Hey Freeseframe, Mind if I ask what you paid for your 2017 Platinum? I am almost pulling the trigger on same build but a 2016 Plat in local dealer stock. Without the New Eco and 10 speed of course. But lots of discounts. I'm on the fence about grabbing the 2016 Platinum or building a 2017. Thanks in advance, from a fellow longtime lurker, and now first time poster.

I like my tech but not necessarily having to be on the cutting edge. Main reason for ordering early is my lease is up December 6 so I need the truck sooner than later.

Ordered 7-18

Lariat Supercrew - 502a - 3.5 Ecoboost
Oxford White
Special Edition
Max tow package
Tech package
Adaptive cruise
Park Assist (getting this actually saved money)
Spray in bed liner / tailgate step / wheel well liners

I have X plan but they gave me invoice pricing + TTL.

Hi K911. I got the 2017 for invoice although they did give me a bit more generous trade offer by about $500 so I suppose I could say I ended up slightly below invoice. I know I could have done better on a '16 but I'm pretty particular about the options on the truck when I'm spending this kind of coin so paid up a bit to get what I wanted. Coming from an '05 Tundra this will be a big step up.

Good luck on your purchase.
