Mine does the same thing...probably changed the oil 5 or 6 times with no issues.

Mine does the same thing (but not that bad). Factory was black. Motorcraft versions afterward are pink. The pink coating does wear off but it generally stays within the threads. Did you see any in the filter? Most likely not.

Also like the post way above stated, lube the o rings before install. Especially that little o ring.

Bottomline: It is normal. You are fine. Carry on.

If this scenario is common with the colored O-rings of the Motorcraft filter, I wonder if the techs(?) changing oil at dealers/Iffy Lube vendors are giving any attention to cleaning the crud off the canister parts before installing the new filter? I refuse to believe that the O-ring debris is harmless if circulating in my engine.
