Now I know - 3.5EB vs 5.0

thanks for taking the time to share.
I'm sort of wondering how long Ford is going to keep offering so many engine options. it HAS to be cheaper to produce fewer versions with higher per unit runs.
(NOTE: I'm not advocating for any specific engine - just noting we now have 5? (NA v6, 2.7EB, 3.5EB, NA 5.0 and the diesel)
Ram is steadily increasing their sales with one (very old) engine...the hemi. (I know they added the torque assist this year...but that will be really low volume)
GM is a mess - reviews on their new truck are mixed (at best) and they keep recycling the 5.3l and 6.2l. I don't even know what to think of the new 2.7l 4cyl turbo.
I guess, now that I've wasted your time blathering - I think ANY of these engines would suit 90% of us 90% of the time.

this is the second thread of someone not sure if they are driving a 5.0 .. as soon as you start it up you can tell what it is. and yes in sport mode its wakes up.. another big misconception is how the power comes on.. when you drive a turbo car you feel you are going faster because how the boost comes on.. you might be surprised to know the 5.0 is just as fast because the power is linear .. my wife thought her 2.0 A5 210hp was faster than my Stage 2 tuned S5 400hp because when her boost kicked it it "felt fast"

Personally I drive a 3.5 EB and have never driven the 5.0 but this post brought back some memories from my car days. In college my buddies and I were all about modding cars and doing the whole drag racing thing and everyone was constantly trying to one up each other. A buddy with a turbo vehicle was at the top of the heap for the longest time. I saved up for a while and dropped a fair amount of cash into my roots style supercharger setup and figured I'd be able to beat him. We decided to throw some money on it and run em the next weekend at our local race track. A couple days before the race he stomped on the gas while I was riding shotgun in his car and I remember thinking 'I'm screwed. Might as well just pay him now and save myself the embarrassment'. When track day came around we ended up racing about 5 times because each run was so close.
Obviously not the same thing but I think the massive torque wave of a turbo vehicle really influences perceived acceleration whereas a linear power band is more subtle and understated.

Well you all are overlooking one thing.....the new F-150 trucks no longer have ecoboost badges on the doors. There is only one tiny one on the tailgate often mistaken for a flex fuel badge. Their loaner is likely a 5.0 with the highest (weakest) gears available for good fuel economy. Your likely driving a 3.15 rear end, the 5.0 needs 3.55 or 3.73, and yes it wakes up if you step on it. It’s a more linear powerband that increases with RPM, and she likes to rev. The 5.0L/ 10 speed will walk away from the ecoboost if you step on both. The 5.0 has most of its power in the top end, this race is a perfect example of torque vs hp. The 3.5L gets the lead with the immediate torque, the 5.0 reels it in and passes it as it power comes on.

ecoboosters just don’t know how to drive the 5.0.. you’re accustomed to easy quick power at low end
every time this topic comes up, I will post this video, basically showing that it comes down to the driver and/or gearing.

Something to be said for easy power down low..
I've always had V8s. My last 400/400 combo never felt like it was even 300/30o......so for a change of pace I went with the 3.5EB. Pretty much love the quick throttle response, requiring no real pre thought from me. Just stick it in drive and go.

I consider these videos to be about as useful as the anecdotal "I smoked a __________ at a stoplight today so obviously my truck is the fastest" stories. Buy the truck you like and enjoy it. We all know the average owner isn't taking their truck to the drag strip, and both engines will get that thing moving in a hurry on the street.

you saw the truth. people will not admit they made a mistake with a purchase such as a truck. Instead they will defend it till death. I spent over 2000 miles driving a 2017 f150 with the 5.0. my truck had been a 2014 3.5 ecoboost that had been wrecked. The 5.0 was flat out annoying for me to drive. even going up over a freeway bridge required too much pedal travel and sometimes a downshift. If you look at dyno charts you will see that the old 5.4 actually belted out more torque below 3000 rpm. recently I drove a nissan armada with the 5.6 in it for about 1200 miles. That motor is way way and I mean way better and more torquey than the 5.0 ford. bascially the 5.0 is the worst gas v8 of any of the major brands and that is because it flat out lacks the cubes and torque down low. its a mustang motor! not a truck engine. Ford does have a real v8 its called the 6.2
5.0 owners will disagree but nearly all of them have not spent time in both trucks.
