Not Happy - Less than 5000 miles - Engine misfire
Just bought a 2018 Lariat in May. 2.7L ecoboost.
I was on my way out of town tonight, got about 20 miles away from home, and I felt like the engine was misfiring causing a rough ride. Wife thought I was being hyper sensitive, and that the road was just bumpy. I kept pressing on, and the road kept getting “bumpier”.
I realized when I let off the throttle, the ride smoothed out. Under acceleration, it was rough again. Sure enough, five miles later, the check engine light started flashing.
i pulled over at a truck stop, there was a small shop that was still open. Couple old guys there had an OBD scanner, and we found a P0302 cylinder #2 misfire code. I was about 30 miles from home at this point, and wasn’t going to try and finish my 200 mike drive, so we turned back home.
Kept the speeds low low on the way home, but the shimmying got worse as we kept on. My Ford app shows there are three indicator lamp malfunctions. I wouldn’t be surprised if three cylinders were misfiring the way it was driving. There was hardly any power.
Dropped the truck off at the dealer closest to home, grabbed our bags and ordered a Lyft to get us the rest of the way home.
Is is this a known problem with these 2.7s?
Definitely not happy about this. Nearly $50k in on a brand new truck and to have this happen is unbelievable. I’m afraid of any damage that might have been as a result of driving it back to the dealer. I sure hope it’s not something that affects the longevity of the truck.
This is is my first Ford. I bought it hoping it would last me at least 200k miles (like each of my last two vehicles did).

It could be as simple as a bad spark plug or coil. I wouldn't get too worried about it until the dealer identifies what's going on. I know it sucks, but there is such a thing as infant mortality.

Cheer up.
My '16 had the hard 5 to 4 shift. Quick trip to dealer and re-flash fixed it.
Not worth starting a ruckus about.
Give them a chance to get it right.

Consider yourself lucky, mine started misfiring around 2k miles. My fix was to replace the plugs and regap them to .28 and only run it in sport or tow/haul mode. If I drive the truck in normal or eco modes then the misfire and check engine light will return within 5 minutes of driving. I can't wait to get this thing tuned as I believe that's the real root cause of these misfire issues.

Same issue with mine ( P0304 code; 2016 with 34K miles on it). Was at the dealership for 43 days, replaced cylinder head, vacuum pump, spark plugs, coil packs, and fuel lines. Currently in a lawsuit with Ford over it. You can see my thread about the issue here https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2016-...issues-419523/
