I get 35 MPG downhill with a tailwind on premium. Anyone else see this?

I get over 40mpg on non-oxy, going down a mountain on the interstate, in neutral towing a 5800lb trailer.

Of course, going up is a different matter.

Usually 4-5 mpg better.
You had to rub it in, didn't you.

Oxygenated gas was around well before using ethanol to oxygenate it. The MTBE used before, as the oxygenation substance, was really nasty stuff. Ethanol replaced it.

We used to have station near us that sold normal gas as well as gas with ethanol (10%). I tracked it for a while and would get 7% better mileage without ethanol fuel. It is no longer available here anymore so we are stuck with the 10% ethanol at all stations. I wish we still had a choice.

Are we talking non-oxygenated, or non-ethanol?

At first it was a non-oxygenated discussion but then someone mentioned ethanol free gas and that confused the conversation.

All pumps read "up to 10% ethanol". In reality, most fuel contains less than 10%. Of course you can find yourself at stations that sell 15% and then there is E-85. Additional ways to cut your mileage and keep food from the world's hungry.
