No RDS on Sync3 with Sony

No RDS on Sync with Sony
My 2016 Lariat came with Sync and Sony system.
First of all the menus on the MFT look and work different than in the Sync3 brochure which came with the car or on the Ford owner website itself.
The RDS is all time off, it doesn't display radio station names nor any other information. If you go to Options there are ON and OFF buttons for RDS which are set to OFF. If you press ON the system is "thinking" for a few seconds and then automatically switches back to OFF. There is no way to get it turned on.
The radio stations here are broadcasting RDS, I also have a 2010 Explorer with the old Sync (Microsoft) where it works perfect. Same in other cars and on the stereo at home.
Any one any advice?

Which version of Sync software. Go to settings then general and get the version. Mine works fine in my 16 so it is just something goofy going on in yours.

you have a 15 with my ford touch. sync3 is an entirely different system/display.

More importantly, what model year F150 did your dealer sell you according your purchase agreement and other closing papers? You think you have a 2016 from your original post (and it looks like the salesman put a 2016 owner manual pack in the glove box). But your audio system tells us you have a 2015.
You can check your model year with your VIN. The 10th character will be "F" for 2015 model and "G" for 2016.

2015 model year owner manuals and other glovebox documents are here:

Yep, definitely a 2015 model. I actually like that system way more, simply for the ability to customize the dashboard buttons. I don't like the layout of sync and you can't do anything about it. Or the looks for that matter.

It is a 2016 model. I'm in UAE and the cars come with so called GCC specification which might differ from the models which are sold in US. Probably they equipped the 2016 models for here with MFT instead of Sync3. But nevertheless it doesn't explain why RDS is not working. As said before, I also have an 2010 Explorer in GCC specs with the old Sync and RDS works fine there. I also have a 2004 Peugeot convertible where RDS works fine.
