New vs Pre-owned

New vs Pre-owned
Just curious what others' thoughts are about buying new vs used. I prefer to buy new, especially with the price of used trucks in my area, but I'm wondering how others feel. How much of a savings would you have to get to go with used over new? The biggest problem I've seen looking at used so far is the higher trim trucks are pretty well loaded out and I can just about buy new with the options I want for the same price as the heavily optioned used available.
Second question kind of related to the first, if you buy new do you order or buy off the lot? Do dealers typically give better prices for in stock vehicles? I would prefer to order and searching dealer inventories has proven to have the same issues as looking at used, lots of heavily optioned trucks.

I ordered mine at the end of July 2016 , picked it up at the beginning of October 2016 don't mind waiting for the exact truck I want. My f150 is just a lease

I bought my 2016 XLT used in February. Nothing special, 4x4, 5.0 V8, Supercab, Sync, tow package with Pro Trailer assist. 1st owner put on Ford running boards and a Line-X Premium spray in liner. MSRP was $43,000. I got it for $28,100 with 6,000 miles.
Looked new, smelled new, drives new and saved me over $12k. Easy choice. I would never pay the ridiculous premium Ford charges for a new F150. The price of these trucks is hard to justify whether you can afford them or not. Just MHO.

There are plenty of arguments to be made about cost and price, but (hopefully) there comes a point in your life where you can step back and say "this isn't about the money". Then just go buy what will make you happy, and don't worry about the rest of it.

It all depends on what options you want and how much you want to pay.
My budget was around 40k, and I was seriously looking at 17 XLT sports, ended up with my CPO 15 lariat sport for 40k. Older 3.5, some miles, but all the options I really liked. A new one would have been over 50k.
That being said, Im sure if I drove a 17 XLT sport without driving a lariat, I would be happy.

Thanks for all the replies, and wow really quickly too. it seems like the guys who bought used saved decent money by going that route. The used trucks I've looked at were nowhere near the savings guys have listed so far. If I could save $15k on a year old truck it would be really hard to buy new, but the ones I've looked at have been about $5-7k less than new, some only a couple thousand less, but with more options. I get that I should compare apples to apples when comparing prices, but having options I don't want doesn't add any value in my book.
