New shoes! 18x9 Fuel Maverick + 275/70/18 Falken Wildpeak AT3W
Hey guys,
I got really sick of the stock goodyear's mushy ride with weight in the bed (1000+ lbs), poor snow performance, and just garbage off-road, so I figured I needed some LT's... Picked up a set of 18x9 Fuel Mavericks and added LT275/70/18's for shoes...
Tires stick out about 1/4" past the factory sport flares which is perfect, and the ride is MUCH stiffer (which I need...). I've has DuraTracs, KO2's, Hankook ATM's on my last few trucks, so I decided to try out the Falkens this time around. I'll update this thread every 5k miles or so with an update on tread life as there's very little info out there about these tires.
Initial impressions are positive, I can definitely feel the extra weight, but they're almost as quiet and smooth as the stockers.
Some pics!!
EDIT: Truck is totally stock. No rubbing at all, although at full lock it is close to the rear crash bar...
EDIT 2: Pictures are orangey because we have massive wildfires burning all around. (In fact, state of emergency has been declared)
EDIT 3: Ok so one thing that pisses me off... Falken advertises this tire size to have 18/32nds of tread, I just measured them after driving less than 3 miles and they're right on 17/32nds.
As tires are recommended for replacement at 4/32nds, that 1/32nd that is missing means they actually have over 7% less tread than advertised. That's a dramatic difference.

Thanks guys!
I'm going to keep them and when the AT3W's get to about half tread they'll become summer only, and i'll put a new set of KO2's, Duratracs, or these if they're impressive on the stock wheels for winter (Northern Canada gets BRUTAL winters)

I'm in southern California (please don't hold that against me - I voted differently than our present state politics) and am concerned with wildfires as well.
