Default The New F150 May Get a Diesel

It seems that Ford might have been tricking us about not putting a diesel in the F150. I read in some other reports they had plans for it back in 2008 but recession put a halt to those plans. This engine is already used outside the US in other applications including a variation of this engine in the land rover. I am not sure if this engine will be during the 2015 release it will probably be in the revision release when they might be releasing the 10 speed transmission to compliment the whole set up. Interesting read none the less.

Here is a link to the lion engine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_AJD-V6/PSA_DT17

Interesting. I think truck sales will be super competitive the next few years, ford with the aluminum f150, ram firing back with eco diesel. Nissan pairing up with Cummins for 2015, word has it tundra pairing with Cummins 2016, then if this is true a diesel for 2018 on the f150.

I will be honest, 5 years ago I would have been interested, but now owning the ecoboost, I don't think I would pay the premium for a diesel in a half ton. 30 mpg's might sway me, but do the math and diesel fuel at over $4 a gallon and the cost of the diesel upgrade, you will most likely just break even. I am sure the everyday tower will be licking his lips, but I am sure most will opt for the ecoboost. Will be a nice engine to have in the line up. Cannot wait to see the details, I am more interested in a 10 speed transmission..

GM already has a company doing this. I'd be interested if it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Same towing capacity, same range, use of 4 wheel drive....check the link below.

Its actually a really cool concept and I wish it was more affordable.

The Ram eco-diesel doesn't have as much power as the EB. Like said above, it may get 30mpg, but if its not as powerful as the EB, is it really worth the extra cost and headaches that go with the diesel?

I think for a light duty pick up people expect power all around both horsepower and torque. I think the eco diesel needed to be a higher displacement then 3.0 to meet that demand and a larger turbo. The eco diesel wont beat the ecoboost in 0-60 performance, how it performs mpg vs the ecoboost and how sluggish it will be with a loaded bed is something we still have to wait to see.

I think the F150 will eventually have a diesel and here's why.

for a short time here, diesel was cheaper than regular. now it's 30 cts PER LITER more.
at 36 gallons tank, 136 L, that's $40 isnt it? that diesel better take me a lot further than my EB

anyway, I dont like the looks of the RAM, so I'm good!
