Hi everybody! I am looking to purchase either a 2016 - 2017 F-150 Super-crew or Nissan Titan crew cab . It will be my first pickup & I'm on a pretty strict budget. I live in Oklahoma and the top of my budget is $32,500 cash. I would prefer a Automatic with the following electric windows , seats, backup camera , remote start (might have to get this later) and dark fabric seats and bed liner.

I at this time won't be hauling a boat or trailer & will be using it to haul the kiddos and groceries. I have 3 teenagers at home and need the room of the bigger cab. I'm told I don't need a 4x4 and not sure if I could even budget for one. Will $32,500 get me a nice base model crew cab? If I was dreaming I'd have a yellow truck but I believe this color isn't available in my price range. I absolutely don't want a white pickup, I had a white Honda Pilot and hated it, I'd also prefer not buying a black one but if it was the right price I wouldn't count it out. I do not want a car payment & understand that I might not get much more then a base model. I'm okay getting a 2016 or heck even a 2015 if by chance I found one brand new.


If I were to find a base model would it be possible to get free upgrades? I never know how to ask for this and need to work on my self confidence when it comes to asking for a lower price or upgrades, again I understand I'm not buying a $40-50k vehicle. I do always ask for a full tank of gas though LOL I'll be purchasing at the end of next month.


Would it be worth driving to Texas? I've always heard there are better prices in Texas but I'm not sure if that's true. I thought about renting a car and spending the weekend in Dallas area looking around. How does internet prices work and rebates? Is there rebates for cash buyers and should I tell them I'm paying cash before or after they give me the final price in writing? When looking at dealer websites, generally how much less should one expect to pay? Basically is I have $32,500 what price range should I be looking at on websites?

I also heard you can pay someone to go with and negotiate the price for you, is there a service like this available ? Pro's and cons?

I have heard people mention websites that show all available vehicles in their state, what website is that? Is there other pickups in my budget range that I should look at? Please don't be offended that I bring up more than one brand , model etc.

First off, look at fuel consumption if budget is tight. The Titans are known to be gas hogs. At least last time I checked. dunno how the 5.6L behaves nowadays...

When I bought my truck, I used an online application (don't remember the name on it) that was allowing me to request multiple "quotes" for vehicles, giving me the vehicle cost and also a fair price you should expect to pay....that was handy and I used that to initiate the conversation with the dealer. Also, I made a COSTCO membership application online for $50.00. That gave me a $1000.00 additional rebate on the truck.

So, about $8000.00 off the MSRP, free 20'inch wheels upgrade, and 0% interest for 72 months...

Usually the japanese manufacturers don't offer that much for rebate and 0% interest...at least not in Canada.

Where at in Oklahoma? I am in Tulsa. If this will be your daily driver and you plan to drive in the snow and ice, I would suggest re-thinking the need for 4x4. I use 4x4 every year. I would say that you could probably get by by not traveling during winter events, but there have been those times when schools have been shut down for a week and going anywhere would not be possible or preferred in 2X.

For what it's worth, I purchased a used 2015 King Ranch recently for 40k. You may be able to find a good deal on a Lariat which would give you leather seats. I am not familiar with purchasing new, but there are some good guys on here who will have better knowledge on purchase price vs MSRP.

Having done this a few months ago, my suggestion would be to internet shop instead of going into or calling dealers. I leveraged Cars.com... you can specify a range based on your zip code and see what inventory is available. Ask for quotes from dealers on trucks you like and ask for an "Out the Door" quote - this is not the price of the truck, it is the price of the truck plus fees, taxes, etc. that the dealer might charge. If you find similarly or same spec'd trucks from several dealers, use your quotes as a bargaining chip between dealers.

Research what current rebates are available for you to take advantage of and check to see what you qualify for. Also, pay attention to the quotes provided by dealers as they may include rebates that do not apply to you. The internet will save you a lot of time shopping and closing the deal... good luck!

If you have three teenagers I'd definitely go for the crew cab. I've had the super cab and its fine for small kids but the crew has more room in the back than you can imagine and the rear seat is much more comfortable. If the price is a little over your budget, if they're offering zero percent interest, use it and extend the payments out to fit your budget. If you plan on keeping the truck for years, get what you want now. Also, if you get snow in your area I'd recomend 4 wheel drive. I agree that on an XLT you should get about $10k off of sticker price. Mine was about $9300 pff of sticker after taxes, title, tags etc were added in.

I drove the new titan. I really liked how it drove.

One thing I HATE about the new titan is, Nissan did a terrible job fitting the wheel/tire flush to the side of the truck. They made the truck look cheap tucking it in like they did. Absolutely ridiculous. Would change the entire look of the truck if they sat more flush with the sides like chevy and ford.

As for price, I tend to think you'll get more bang for your buck on the F150. I haven't seen Nissan that willing to bounce down on price like Ford.......plus if you keep the truck forever and a day, parts will be much cheaper and easier to find 10 years down the road on the Ford.

I agree with shooting for the SuperCrew over the SuperCab. You will have a TON of room for your kids and it is also nice having the room with the back seats folded up if you have to haul something in the cab.

I think your best bet would be to go to Ford.com and build the truck with what you want and then check the dealerships around you to see what is in stock so you can get the most out of the truck for your budget. It can be done. You just need some patience, confidence, and knowledge. If you are buying new, don't settle for the first one you find on the lot. Make sure it is exactly what you want the first time around so your not wishing you had got something else. You may have to compromise on some things to find the truck that suits you perfectly. I'd also suggest once you build the truck online, make a list of the features in order of importance to you.
