The area that you push down on to open is covered in thousands of little scratches.

Thank you for the post with pictures, we'll definitely take care of it for you! This has me stumped, I haven't run into this before. The powder coating can be scratched, of course, but just normal opening and closing with your hands should not result in any scratching. My only theory at the moment is that the powder coating was not cured properly. Powder coating is about the most durable finish option out there.

I'll PM you to coordinate details, but likely the easiest solution will be for us to ship you a snap-in replacement cover at no charge and then we'll have the scratched cover picked up at our expense to bring it back. I'll ask our engineering and finishing teams to analyze the powder coating on your cover to see what we can learn.

I apologize for the inconvenience to you!

Heath,
Without giving away competitive info, it would be interesting if you could share results of the analysis.

When I installed my Paragon, I considered applying a coating to that area that I push on. I did not, and now after opening it at least 100 times even when covered with gritty dirt, there are zero scratches from my hand.

I got mine to match my truck color from Peragon.
I waxed the cover a couple of times in the yr I have been using it.
So far no scratches or break downs.
Have opened it prob. a hundred times.

i need to ask because i was at looking to purchase this cover, in the pictures it like hand smudge on the drivers side panel towards the cab. is there actual paint damage in that area?

the part that really concerns me is how scratched the forward bed rail under the back window looks.

do you have close up pics of the damages?

That is just dirt, not any damage. Heath has reached out to me and it *may* be possible that those are smudges in the tech wax that I applied right after I got it. It has been really rainy here in Alaska so as soon as I can dry it out I will inspect the area again very carefully to see if that is the case. I will post an update when then time and weather permit.

Even if there is damage Peragon has assured me that they will take care of it.

My cover has been on for 5 months now. It's been opened and closed 100s of times and removed and put back on at least a half dozen times. I have zero scratches or marks on the cover. Just thought I would add my experience so far.

The cover removes in a minute. The struts have a quick-release on each end. Just pop them off, then one latch and the entire thing comes off in your hands.

I like that you don't have to open the tailgate first to open the cover.

Note to the OP: you can replace those 4-inch bolts with some shorter ones that won't stick into the cargo area so much. Might help to avoid smashing cargo into them. I think they are 5/16", 18T.
Good call on those long possibly dangerous bolts. Why does Peragon supply bolts that are so intrusive to the bed space? Hoping maybe the one I just ordered comes with the 5/16 bolts you recommended.
