Must be a fairly minute defect.

I guess I stand alone when I say I agree with your dad in pushing for a new truck. My first 2018 F-150 was delivered to my house and after the fresh snow had melted off the truck and I had signed my paperwork, I found a pretty significant paint flaw. The dealer offered to re-paint or put me in a new one. I gracefully took the new truck and they even delivered it again for free.

I hold the view that for what we pay for new cars, they shouldn't need body work before it rolls off the lot. Absurd people actually find that acceptable IMO. Hopefully your dad's dealer is as cool as mine was.

You would be surprised how many vehicles have paint repairs coming from the factory. I spent 20+ years in tier one OEM parts supply and was regularly in assembly plants in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Good luck trying to get a replacement truck. I would be kicking myself for not checking the truck over prior to accepting it, and would just accept the repair and go on down the road. But that's just me.

This. I was thinking the same then read this post. Every make has a body shop area for defect repair and damage that happens on the line and the buyer never knows.

At one point in my life we bought Honda Odysseys [luckily that stage is over and done with]. We had ordered a new one from a local dealer and when we went to pick it up, I walked around the van and the driver's side sliding door had primer showing through the clear in several spots where it was very obvious that the base coat was applied too thin. You would think that that sort of thing was not possible in the modern age, let alone that it would escape the factory that way. When I pointed it out, the dealership brought over the head of the body shop and he agreed that it seemed to be missing some color. For a minute, the salesman thought that I would still take the van. He then looked at my expression and brought around another new one. It had slightly better content and everyone was satisfied. Best part is that before we left the dealership, they had sold the first one to someone else....without addressing the paint issue.

I went through a VERY similar situation. Bought my truck from 3 hours away, had a tennis ball sized defect in the driver's side door. Didn't notice it until about a month later when I hand washed it for the first time. I had to take it back and forth a couple times for them to see/document the damage and then actually repair it. My truck was also transferred from another dealer. They claimed the damage was not from the factory, so only my dealership would fix it. The closer dealership wouldn't touch it.

Asking for a new truck is absurd. Have it repaired. If it DID happen at the factory and was repaired there, he would never know and still have a repainted panel.

My repair is perfect, and I do visual inspections on metal parts for a living.

Why did he sign papers with an obvious defect? I looked over every inch of my truck, inspecting each panel, door alignment, anything. We found one door was off and a small dent that PDR took out. That was all in the papers that I signed. Next day it was done and I picked it up. Why blame the dealer?

I had to get paint correction on my Tailgate before I picked up my truck, and it came out perfect.

I wouldn't worry too much about them not being able to paint match it.

What colour is it?
