What a testament to safety engineering. The truck saved your bacon! Glad you're okay.

Crazy about the other driver's insurance though. In Canada $500,000 liability is pretty much the lowest you can go. I've got $1,000,000 in liability coverage.

Now he obviously should have been paying enough attention to get stopped in time without any trouble... no argument.... just an observation.

Usually I keep my mouth shut when I see moronic posts, but I can't for this one.

This is one of the dumbest observations someone has written on this forum. Have you ever seen a chain reaction accident? I'm assuming you haven't, or don't trust the laws of physics.

I've seen 7 car accidents from this type of stupidity.

Your 2.5 ton truck doesn't stop you from plowing into whatever car is ahead of you. And its your fault if someone hits you from behind and you hit the car ahead of you.

Not leaving space puts people in harm's way for no reason. And youre just doing damage to youre rate if your hit.

Always leave a car length in front of you at stop lights.

I hate being behind people like you at stop lights that constantly inch forward. There is no reason for it.

I pray I'm never behind you in traffic.

End rant.

In a perfect world, you are right. But Aj06bolt12r does make a valid point that hardly nobody leaves car lengths between themselves driving in congested traffic.

Around the Philly area where I commute, it gets you cut off it you are not driving nose to *** from point A to B.

I would like to know more about it being your fault if you get hit from behind and hit the car in front of you. Is there any distance of gap/space that would make it not be your fault?

That is going to be determined by your state law on how many car lengths you are suppose to maintain separation and the ticketing office determining if you maintained it. Some states you have an out if you maintain proper separation and some states you get a ticker regardless. If you live in a "no fault" state, it really does not matter.

Thank you. So it is not always the persons fault.

In some states, you tap the rear of another vehicle, regardless of why, you are at fault. If some moron pulls out of a side road onto a highway with 55 MPH traffic in front of someone who cannot avoid hitting him, even though the guy pulling out was at fault, the guy who rear ended him gets an automatic ticket. Illinois is like that.

Now if the guy who pulled out admits he pulled out in front of the other guy, then no ticket will be issued. Of course a dash cam can also help in this instance, provided you were recorded doing the speed limit or under.

Back in the early 80's, 82 I think, when I had drivers ed, you were taught to stop far enough back that you can see the other cars rear tires. That gives enough distance between cars, to prevent hitting if you got rear ended in most cases. This was in the city though where speeds are 30 MPH or under. For CDL training though, whole different ball of wax, give as much space as you can.

I guess I would like to find out what gap is required for a stationary vehicle? I think the thumb rule for driving is 1 car length/10 mph? What if your truck is parked in a lot and some dip**** hits it and pushes into another vehicle, is it still your trucks fault? Just wondering....

People in Michigan complain that their no fault insurance rates are high. It is because the limits are ten times that of Louisiana.

It would seem that the Uniform vehicle code would address the gap needed between vehicles as well as several other items. How could anyone know the various different laws that apply if they drive through different states?
