Default MX4 BAKFLIP Upgraded?

Am I crazy or is the MX4 a new model but maintaining the same name? Seems they've addressed a lot of concerned including being able to open and close the tailgate without unlatching the cover, higher quality release latches, etc.

i had not seen or noticed this wording before.

Anyone have any details? Seems like it addresses pretty much all the negative points I heard from the forum about the MX4.

I have the MX4 on my '17 Platinum, and I can say it is an improvement over the BakFlip I had on my '13 Limited. I couldn't close the tailgate without unlatching the cover and when closed, the cover would lift up a a little inches, which always concerned me. The new cover allows me to close the tailgate with it down and fits tight.

I didn't explain well.

It seems to me, unless I'm mistaken, that the MX4 has been upgraded with a better designed tailgate seal as well as a few other features. I recall many people complaining about how the tonneau needed to be opened before closing the tailgate on the MX4.

Am I wrong? I may call them later today.

Correct, The Mx4 has an updated fin seal instead of the traditional flap seal. The Mx4 and F1 come standard with the fin seals. It will allow you to open and close the tailgate without having to open the cover. As well the Mx4 has a Matte finish so it blends with factory bed caps.

LOL. Ok. I'm still not clear I guess.

Lately, I'm seeing lots of wording like "ALL NEW MX4" and "UPGRADED COMPONENTS". I'm trying to say, with no reference to the G2 or any other model, has the MX4 itself been upgraded recently? A la MX4 (version 2.0) or MX4 (gen2). Not upgraded as in an upgrade from X or Y model.

You should ask the same question again, maybe you'll get the same response...again.

The MX4 is the MX4. Nothing has been changed with it. It's the newest cover from Bak that's why it's advertised as "upgraded" compared to the other models.

If you contact the manufacturer, I'd be interested in knowing their response.

In the product description, you can see:

"The BAKFlip MX4 model 448309 (replacing #48309)..."

It does make one wonder if the MX4 has been upgraded and part number revised accordingly - even if the MX4 part name remains unchanged.

YES! Exactly what I've been trying to say. Sorry, I'm from the ComputerWorld, so I naturally went with version as my example.

I tried calling and got no answer. Also tried Luke at TruckAlterations but no one is answering the phones today. Figured he might know!

If it has been upgraded, then my toss up is now between that or the Undercover UltraFlex. That is a sneaky-amazing cover I never see mentioned.
