MPGs thread gripe

I have a RCSB 4x4 3.73 3.5 tivct base engine. I just about never go out of town with the truck. It's been on the highway once. I'm getting 18.5 almost always. Once it went to 18.9
I'm satisfied with it, I think the MPG is fine, it gets what the sticker said it would exactly. I'm taking a 1000 mile trip next month. I figure it will get mid 20's highway.

My 2011 3.5 EB 4x4 SCREW averaged 17.17... after 43,000 miles by doing the math, computer was in the high 17's

Comparing to different drivers in different areas is tough... My 15 vs my 12, I find the 15 almost 10% WORSE when I drive the same roads the same way.. My 12 was dead consistent at 12.3l/100km.. Easy, this 15 is getting 13.5l/100k.. The only factors I can really see between the two trucks are aerodynamics of the front of the truck, the tires on the 15 are more aggressive (18" Goodyear A/T's), the transmission programming (seems to lug the engine way more), and the tow mirrors on the 15 vs the small ones on my 12.. I really think the tires and tranny programming are the cause.. That said, it may not even be tires, because I find crushing at 90km/hr it's better in fuel that my 12.. Seems to kill the mileage during acceleration, even light acceleration..
On top of that, the fuel consumption indicate in the dash has been optimistic by about 8%. My 12 would be within a couple liters n a 130l fill up, whereas my 15 has at best been off by 8+ liters on a 120l fill up...
It's been a little frustrating because I was expecting newer to be better, but hey, it's just money... The truck itself is much nicer day to day..

I have a Lariat Screw Fx4 3.55 axle with the 5.0, 3000 miles, 50/50 city/hwy driving, ~860 elevation, 15.5mpg lifetime average which was reset after 1000 miles. I'm usually lucky to get 17mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 75. I haven't seen over 16mpg on a tank yet.

3.73
Houston
4WD
35" tires
I usually get about 27mpg towing a trailer in Houston traffic. Truck never sees the highway.
Also, I talked to a guy at a bar with who owned both 2.7 and 3.5 2015 EcoBoost 2WD regular cab and he was getting below 10mpg on both.

2.7L, 3.55, 2.5" lift, 33" Duratracs, 1300km on it so far, 50/50 city/highway, seeing 13.3L/100km average so far. On 1+ hour relatively flat highway trips it will sometimes drop down to around 10L/100km. Had the same wheels on my 2011 3.5EB and was usually 15-16L/100km in that. Can't complain :-)

Also if you are going by the truck computer it will happily give you an extra 10-15% on your MPG's. You have to hand calculate to know for sure. My computer says close to 19, I have not calculated recently last time i did it was about 17 to 17.5. Truck info in signature, about 3300 miles and 600ft elevation.

It would have been helpful if you had put your elevation. Houston ranges from 60ft all the way up to about 120ft. This stuff makes a difference.

Where I'm at in downtown is actually 50ft above sea (about 15m, for our hockey friends up north) and I rarely travel up the mountain to northwest Houston which is 125ft above (38m).
