Moving cross country with Fire Arm
Hey guys. I will be moving soon from South, La to Seattle, Wa. I have 2 firearms .22 and a .380. No nothing major strictly personal protection. Any states I should be worried about? I don't know the gun laws in the northern states. Thanks

I will tell you that AZ is open carry, so do as you will. CA is a state that wants the firearm locked, and the ammunition separated from it. I lived in both states at one time, and I used to have to do this every time I went back and forth.

As a responsible gun owner it is your responsibility to know the law. I recommend www.handgunlaw.us as a resource and probably 99% of the time it is accurate but even they will tell you to do your own homework on each state you pass through. On their website there is a tool to "build a trip" or something along those lines, it will tell you if you're covered in each state you're planning on traveling through. Do you have a concealed carry permit in any state? This can help but it greatly depends on each state, unfortunately the 2nd amendment is not properly understood in many places. Keep in mind I am referring to handguns, long guns should be unloaded (it is always illegal to have a loaded long gun in a vehicle) and ammunition in a separate, preferably locked location.

As far as loaded, Kansas is a "Constitutional Carry" state. Open carry, concealed carry, no permits, no training etc. Just pass the Federal background check and you can carry. As far as handguns in a vehicle, the firearm must be unloaded while in transport.
