In looking at the GMC tailgate when in "step" mode, it looks like the tailgate would make contact with a standard trailer hitch. Anyone know if this is true or if my eyes are deceiving me?

Someone mentioned that in the comments of an article I read on it. It certainly looks like it would. Maybe it could be a new marketing campaign for GMC. " Hey guys, ever wished your ***** could hit the back door"

Fords is the worst, when ford came out long ago with the little step was cool, but outdated now. Had a Ridgeline and liked the dual tailgate.
Ford should look into at least that concept. Like said most trucks are errand haulers now and ease of access to the bed is priority. Ford,
bring back the Lincoln Blackwood. There is a market now for trucks near the 100k mark. Yeah keep the lower ends for the blue collar working
crowd, you have too, but, move up to a segment that would buy a Mercedes, BMW, and Cadillac trucks if available. Motors, Ford use the HO mustang's,
like the cadillac should use the Vette engines. leave the mundane motors for the working trucks or ones that have to drag trailers around.

I'd also love to see the Ridgeline pulling your trailer. lol
For ****s n giggles a friend hooked my 6k pound trailer up to his Ridgeline for a 2 mile pull from storage to home.
Suffice it to say it sagged badly, had trouble getting going and stopping....And he would never do it again.
Was funny to watch....

I want a locking tailgate,no power folding,I can add a cheap Deezee dampener.
I dont need it to open in middle or tri fold like that crap GM has....just more **** to go wrong.
Fords step is good and Im glad I have it...
The bumper step on Chev is simple and works well.

Everytime I see that GM commercial about the tailgate I think to myself "they can have the tailgate. I'll take the engine, the interior, the technology, the look, etc of my F150"

I believe Ram's tailgate is rated at 2k lbs.

GMC tailgate has too many cracks and places for road grime and ice to get into much like the Ram split gate which to me is useless.
The Ford looks to be by far the most hidden and usable gate.

I do like the honda tailgate and its ability to open in two distinct manners - i think its a plus.
I also like the Honda in box storage and the fact their box is made out of a composite material.

The best part with the GMC (I guess the engineers forgot about), what happens if you try to use the step gate and forget to remove your trailer hitch. From what photos that I can see of it, you are going to dent the tailgate of your 60K truck (because you know GM wont put that option on the lower tier trucks). Also, I have a step and I don't have to remove my trailer hitch to use it.
