Default which models have the awd transfer case, and is it any good?

Sounds like the perfect, cheap solution for "real world" light snow highway driving.

A) Is it any good?

B) Which models does it come with? I don't see it on the xlt I'm looking at.

Thanks!

Are you referring to 4 Auto? If so, I believe it's only on Lariat and up. I have an XLT and it does not have 4A.

Yes I am. Thank you. That is what I suspected/feared.

Yes, Lariat and up. So far I like it. I've used it on deep snow covered roads and moderately packed snow covered roads. It's nice that you can leave it alone when transitioning to uncovered pavement.

It's great. Left it in 4A during a light 2-3" of snow this past weekend and never really spun a wheel.

So I ordered a Lariat with the mindset of "I need to have the 4A". This is my third truck, and the first two were the traditional "shift into 4wd" when you need it. I was always a little uneasy about how squirrelly the rear end would get on wet roads, taking off from stop signs or turning sharp right and having one wheel start spinning. Obviously damp roads would just about never justify engaging 4wd, but how are people's XL and XLT's traction control systems handle situations like that?? Besides luxury wise, does anyone wish they would have upgraded to the 4A? Thank you! I love this forum!

I suppose that's the real question, egh?

I know GM had a computerized transfer case in the early 2000's. It was horrendous/useless at best, dangerous at worst.

...But then so was everything computerized back in the stone age.

Traction control had one idea and the transfer case had another. They fought, and nobody won.

Nowadays manu's have traction control down pat. It saves thousands of lives every year, no one denies this. If the case is as simple as I suspect, I gotta imagine it's fantastic in real world slippage.

From what I have seen with 4A and by watching the power transfer screen in off road mode, it seems to send power to the front and back until 80 kmh regardless of wheel spin.
