Mirror tap for Radar Detector for 2018 Ford F-150 King Ranch
I just got a great Christmas present, a Uniden R3 Radar detector. I decided on a mirror mount and that was easy. The hard part is determining the right place to put the wires on my mirror tap. I have attached a picture of the power clip from the back of my mirror. I would like to avoid using slots that are already in use. Further I started checking the others with my multi meter and have had no luck.
Has anyone put one in to a 2018 yet and what number slots did you use for power and ground. There are some other ones in the forum but based on the look of the wires, they are different and the harness clip may also be different.
Thanks

Ok just did the mirror tap on my 18 Limited and it went very smooth: The Black wire is your (HOT) and the Green is the (GROUND) and it comes on when you turn the truck on and Off when truck is off!! The detector DOES NOT go off when you go into reverse as I have heard around here, at least not mine!!

looking at those wires, ideally the red should be hot and black ground--but you need to use a multi-meter to make sure--with your key on probe the wires till you find your 12V source, then find the ground

I agree but I don't want to use the slots that these wires use. My hope is someone has already tested the other slots and can tell me which other one is hot and which other is ground. Thanks

On my 2015, I popped open the upper console, & tapped into the wiring up there.
Search that info here, there's a thread that even shows what wire to tap in to.
I know, this info may not be the help you're looking for, ...

Hopefully you already know that when the radar detector goes off it means you have been detected.
