Default Making room behind the Screw seat...?

Just occurred to me, this could be taken as a double entendre....haha I am soo juvenile sometimes....anyway, to the point.

I see a lot of people fighting, begging, clamoring, scratching etc for info on the size of boxes for behind the seat of the Screws.

Why hasn't anyone just removed the seats and weld 2”-3” extensions on the bottom of the mounts and re-drill for the mount bolts? Some minor adjustments would be needed to the forward outside mount plates but, it just seems like the easiest, most reasonable, least intrusive way to go. You adjust the upper seat back latches with longer bolts and use a piece of pipe as a “pillar mount” (like on a precision rifle when mounting the receiver to the stock).

The rear seats could easily be moved forward 2” and no one would notice, 3”-4” if you’re feeling adventurous.

just a thought, now please feel free to tell me it’s been done or....as my wife would say, “you’re an idiot”.....

There's a ton of room in the back, so moving the seats 2-3" forward is a great idea. About all I store behind mine is a rainsuit, ****** strap and 100' of 3/8" rope.... and that's a struggle.

I may get started on this next weekend when I am off. I figure 6 plates welded at the back of each mount bracket. I can prep, prime and paint before I do final fit and install. The biggest trick will be to get the holes lined up perfectly so I don't have crooked rear seats going back in.

I can go to the scrap yard and find some good donor steel to use as well.

Could also possibly just get a plate and bolt it to the original hole and then use a second drilled hole to bolt to the body.

Sounds like a great idea to move the seats forward and again more storage behind them.

Please post pics and updates, Thanks!

A fellow member here sent me this link for a kit from LMI welding.

kit number LMI-1520-SA. They go for $145 plus $18 shipping. It states it gives a 2”-3.25” forward shift to the rear seats. I am going to pick one up even though my stereo install won’t be started for several months.

I take it you've already installed a latch release handle. What do you want to put back there, if I may ask?
You know, Ford brags about how much rear leg room this truck has. You're going mess that up for them.

It looks like they actually lift the seats up, not forward according to the install vid on their site. I would imagine that extra lift would give you more space for a box or storage back there and/or under the rear seat.

They make two different kits. Video is for seat lift only.
