Default Main Reason for Purchase???

2018 F150 Super Crew Cab 4x4 Eco

This is the first pick up truck I ever owned. Only reason I bought it was to tow an enclosed car trailer. After an exhaustive research campaign it was a no brainer to buy the EcoBoost F150. I am not brand loyal at all. If my research told me a Yugo was the vehicle for towing, I would have bought that. I used Escalades to tow with before this. Why do you own a PU?

We are 45 posts into this. I'm surprised that so many. like me, bought this truck for reasons other than the truck bed. Nice to have but not the MAIN reason for purchase.

2. First pickup was a 1966 half ton.
3. Followed by 10 more pickups over 40 years.

I've always been a truck guy. I could probably do everything I do now, with a Camry, but I wouldn't be happy. My truck is big, comfortable, reliable, and holds its value pretty well.

Okay, fun storytime.

Short story - I bought it to haul classic cars to/from shows, mainly.

Long story - I've owned GMC Sierra pickups my whole life. My previous one, a 1993 GMC Sierra K1500 served me well for a very long time. In the last few years, I've been acquiring low mileage, antique cars that I like to take to shows on the East Coast. The '93 may be rated for 5,000 pounds, but the 5.0 and it's (when new) 175hp wasn't really up to the task.
The kicker for me to replace it happened about a month ago. Went to pick up an '84 Fiero SE with 9,000 miles on it in the Blue Ridge mountains, about 3 hours away. Plan was to tow it back home, as I've done before. The truck has always performed acceptably - on flat ground.
So, I'm loaded up, and pull off on I-81/I-64 to get some fuel. I pull out of the truck stop, and see a sign 'TRUCKER ACCELERATION RAMP ENDS IN 3000ft'. I look in my left mirror, and see a convoy of semi trucks probably 1/3rd mile back or so. I give it some gas to get up to speed. It's not accelerating.
I floor it. 25MPH.....26.......27....oh sh*t.
"ACCELERATION LANE ENDS 2000 ft.............1500 ft..............1000 ft................500 ft............."
Guys. I had to merge onto the right lane of I-81 doing 43 MPH, with a convoy of semi trucks doing 65-70 only about 200' behind me.
The lead guy got 10' from the trailer and merged at the last second, laying on his horn. I have never come so close to crapping my pants in my life. I had nowhere to go.

About ten minutes after that, I had to hold it to the floor to maintain 60 in the right lane going up the backside of a mountain in Waynesboro, VA, and held 300 RPM's shy of redline for a solid minute. When I crested the top of the hill, my battery light was on. Cooked the 6 month old alternator. Had to pull over in Charlottesville, VA and change it in a parking lot. Looking under the truck, I notice my pinion seal is now leaking fluid on the ground. I was done. Last straw.

Had a friend at a Ford dealer locate me a 2018 F150 extended cab in Magnetic with the Coyote 5.0, 36 gallon tank, trailer tow package, locking rear diff, tech packages, tailgate step, chrome package, etc. Had my old truck ten years, and within driving this new one 50 miles, I didn't even miss it.
