rather than hijacking your thread, I posted a new video on mine, of the sound after the split tip install.

Does changing the pipe to 3" really change much? It seems like such a small stretch of pipe

I really don't think it matters that much. Others have said here, that you will not see any performance gains by doing exhaust. I never dynoed it either way. It makes me wonder why Ford downsized that specific pipe, when everywhere else is 3." Design flaw? Or by design? Although, I do believe that the aftermarket cat-back systems are a full 3"

I was thinking everything was 3", seems odd. Maybe it has to do with pressures, idk. I'll probably swap mine when I eventually do my exhaust. I'm gonna do windshield film first as I need to get my registration sticker on.

On motorcycles, not enough restriction (i.e. straight pipes) kills your torque, but helps your horsepower. You want some back pressure to maintain your torque numbers. So, I would think that the same applies to our trucks. So far, what I've done, hasn't seemed to adversely effect my tq or power. In fact, my butt-o-meter tells me I may have increased both numbers. But that could be just wishful thinking 'cause I sound so damn good.

Yeah I found that out when I did straights on my old truck. 2.5" straight from the cats to 12" cherry bomb glass packs, out to dual tips in the back. Definitely lost some low end torque, but not enough for me to care.

Like we both mentioned, it's such a short run of pipe it can't have THAT much effect.

The reason they do this is mainly for cost. 3" piping is a big step up in raw material cost from 2.x" piping, and Ford, like most other manufacturers dont see the benefit in the extra production costs when the majority of owners are not performance-oriented.

Is there any proven performance gains by doing the mods I've done? The seat of my pants says yes. It sure seems to spin tires a lot easier. Be mindful, I made my mods not expecting any gains. I just wanted a better sound. But my gut says they made a difference. I replaced my stock system of my 2014 R/T Challenger, with Magnaflow mufflers, and definitely saw performance gains by decreasing the time to 60. But I also did a resonator delete on that. I kept the resonator on this truck.

With the muffler swap and larger piping you probably picked up a few hp; maybe a couple more on top of that if you're tuned (?). Nothing too crazy, but an improvement nonetheless!
