Default Lowering 4x4 from factory height

Howdy. Hopefully someone can help me out with some questions.

So, I ordered and took delivery of a 2016 4x4 XLT yesterday, and one problem is that the 4x4 is a little too high for my friend to get into comfortably. I asked the salesman, and apparently the 4x2 (which I test drove) is somewhat lower than the 4x4 that I ended up ordering.

Questions are this:

1. How much higher is the 4x4 compared to the 4x2? I can't seem to find this anywhere.

2. It is an easy (or expensive/difficult) modification to have it lowered by a shop, and can it be lowered to the height of the 4x2 (or even a little lower if I wanted).

Thanks,

Barry

A 4WD can't go as low as a 2WD due to the front axle setting under the engine. Many guys do remove the rear lift blocks from the 4WD trucks to bring them down some. It's easy and can be done in an hour or so with the proper tools handy. There is an entire thread here on removing the rear blocks, with pictures, so you can have a good idea of what you're in for. A shop could probably do it for you within an hour's labor charge.

Companies like DJM, Ground Force, Crown, all make lowering kits for these trucks. Any where from 1.5"/2.5" to 4"/6" drops, only the 4x4's are limited due to the CV shaft angles. Both the 2wd and 4x4 trucks are built basically the same suspension wise. They are both a strut suspension and the basic lowering kits (1.5"/2.5") just replace the coil on the strut, making it sit 1.5" lower in the front and the rear is probably just to remove the spacer at the axle and install a lowering shackle, or it could be just a shackle...

Something like this...

Default Difference between stock 4x2 and stock 4x4?

Does anybody know the difference in height between the stock 4x2 and stock 4x4? I am asking that because the 4x2 seemed like a fine height for me.

You should post up your truck details if you want specific info.

Anyway, here it is for a Supercrew. About 1.6" difference.
