Yea I took some really careful measurements to cut only what was needed. Its kinda hard to describe, but my lightbar has a raised lip around the edge. As opposed to just cutting the plastic bars of the grille insert flat, I left a small piece on the back edge of the grill insert bars to act as a stop for the raised edge of the light bar. So basically when you slide the light bar into the cutout, it will stop at the point when its flush. Again, took some careful measuring and cutting just a bit at a time. Here are a few pics to hopefully help explain...

A coping saw blade - not even attached to the saw. The blade is really thin, so it allowed me to make pretty accurate cuts, and just took my time.

I tried a dremel with a cutoff wheel, but i didnt have enough control, and it moved to fast where it would cut and melt the plastic and didnt make for a clean line.

I've been really wanting to get this for my truck. Unfortunately, a front license plate is required in my state.

I wonder if they make a side mount for the license plate, like the older ecoboosts had. That'd free up that spot.

Really tight & clean install. Great idea for placement of the lightbar.
