Long Term Adaptive Learning Reset Results?
I didn't realize there were additional steps to follow after the reset. All they told me was to drive normally and I'd probably know in about 200 miles or so if it was going to solve the problem. Thanks for the extra information!
I disabled adaptive learning with forscan a few months back. The shifts are now smooth. Every now and then it does something strange, but nothing like before. Highly recommend doing it. The 3-5 shift isn't as harsh now either. It's really different and awesome. What are the long-term implications, tbd. But I'm happy. I have an '18 1500 miles short of 100k. Recommend doing this for sure.
I did the same thing, but read a thread on Reddit from an automotive engineer that said it could eventually cause severe damage as the software watches, monitors and adjusts pressures etc to prevent damage. So I turned it back on. But yes, I thought it was smoother also. Didn’t see sport mode or tow mode being as aggressive essentially with down shifting though.

totally different truck!
2 years later hes still very very happy about it, im actually going to be ordering OZ tuning on friday! Pretty stoked! The shifting in these 10spds half the time its perfect and you remember why youu love the 10spd... the other half im looking in the mirrior to make sure it hasnt grenaded itself.
I bought my 2018 F150 XLT used about 2.5 years ago. 5.0L, 10 speed. It had 51k miles on it. No major issues with it but over the last year I had the typical shifting issues everyone else complains about. Happened at random times but seemed worse going up or down hills. 4th into 5th and 7th into 8th gears, then 8th to 7th and 5th to 4th when downshifting. Sometimes it's fine for several weeks or months and won't do it at all. I'm up to 67k miles now and decided to have the dealer check it out, mainly because I was curious what the adaptive learning reset would do to it.
Tech drove it and confirmed my complaints. He reset the drive cycle / adaptive learning and drove it again. Said it was working fine after the reset. I can confirm that the reset definitely helped. It's shifting super smooth now and I haven't had any issues since. However, they told me that I would know within about 200 miles or so if the reset would do the trick or if I would need a new transmission later on. I'm closing in on the 200 miles now and I just wanted to check with people that were in a similar situation and see what your long-term results were after performing the reset. I've heard of people doing the reset and never having an issue again, and I've also heard of people that didn't notice any difference after resetting the adaptive learning. I didn't get much information in regard to how long people drove the truck after the reset though.
If you've ever had your adaptive learning reset, what were your long-term results afterwards? I really like this truck, and it hasn't given me any issues otherwise. It's our most reliable vehicle at the moment but I'm trying to decide if I should trade it or roll the dice and keep it. I can't really afford two car payments at the moment, and our other vehicle is about due to be traded in soon. I still have about 2 years left to pay on the truck. Just trying to get some more information from people who have went through a similar situation so I can hopefully make the right choice. Thanks!

I had the same issue. I bought a used 2019 with 38k miles and it shifted hard from 3-4 and 10-8 especially when climbing hills. A couple of times it was so hard I checked to see if I was rear ended. I had the adaptive learning reset when I took it in for cam phasers around 48k miles and I haven’t noticed any rough shifts since. It’s at 54k miles now.
