Locking diff or not on 4X4?

Locking diff or not on 4X4?
It's a safety and convenience item. If it's only using it once in your life it's paid for itself.
If you ever find yourself on a boat ramp or off road or in an icy situation you could find yourself kicking yourself for not getting it.
Although if you don't get it and you do find yourself stuck you can apply slight brake pressure to rain in the free spinning wheel and force some power to go back to the other wheel. I've never had to do this guess why... cause I have rear lockers lol!

2018 XLT FX4
As one other poster said - Definitely better to have it than not to. Mine was included with the 3.55G/R in the FX4 package. As for the guy that said that the 2.7LEB is not available in a SCab, look at my signature...

It's a small price to pay and will likely hold its' value for re-sale if that is of consideration. I wouldn't want a system without a locking rear, but hey, that's just me. I agree with the others; use it once and it has paid for itself.

I agree with Jimja - you really don't need it based on what you posted, already ordering 4x4 and assuming you stay in your general location....now if you have a heavy boat and sometimes go into questionable boat launches then it would definitely be worth it.
I really doubt it would affect your resale value much by not having it.
I have it on mine, but I deal with snow ice and pretty nasty off road conditions. I carry tire chains for all four tires in both pickups. Had to change tires and wheels on both just to be able to get chains on. Last year had to chain up the Raptor as I couldn't make it up this particular hill, once I chained up and got to the top I realized I never engaged the rear locker, whoops! May have been able to make it with the locker engaged as I just couldn't make it up the last 15-20 ft....
I also agree though it's a small price to pay upfront if you find you ever need it. Just make sure you know how to use it and the precautions to take when using it. Do not engage while giving it throttle, try to disengage prior to turning especially if on dry pavement....the same could be said for 4x4 mode, but that seems a bit more forgiving especially with regards to turning. Make a turn in 4WD you might notice it, especially if a sharper turn, but make a turn with the rear locker on you'll definitely notice it, short of being on a slick surface.

You never have to engage the locker if you don't need it, and the axel will function the same as a regular open differential. You are buying a supercrew Lariat 4x4, a substantial amount of money, a couple hundred buck is a drop in the bucket if you never use the locker. But I can assure you, that one moment when you have one front, and one rear wheel scratching for traction, you will be kicking your *** if you don't have it.

4x4 ain't jack on grounds where the surface shearing is high and you find yourself losing traction left and right. Such as in snow or ice or mud or uneven ground.
To me, if you're gonna buy a $40-60k truck skimping on like $300-350 or so for the locker makes no sense.
