Lock cylinder on rear bumper?
Greetings,
We just picked up a 2016 Lariat SuperCrew, 5.0. On the rear bumper on teh right side of the license plate is a lock cylinder? Why or what does that cylinder "open?"

Your truck key should open it. There is a little plastic tube behind it that you slide the spare tire lowering tool/jack handle into. It's the rods that are in the package with the jack.

I hear ya, my last truck had manual windows, locks, shifter and no jack or spare tire. But at least I could roll start it if the battery died.
There should be a manual in the glove box. It's full of good info....I believe the spare tire information is around page 360. There's some diagrams on how to assemble the jack handle correctly, but little help on packing the handle and jack back where they go.

Okay, I will tell a short story I don't admit to very often. Within a few weeks of buying my 2014 eco I went shooting at a range in a box canyon in the sticks. No cell phone coverage at all, that was actually nice it gave me a good reason to not have answered when the boss called. My buddy says hey you might want to get different tires if your going to rip down the gravel roads like that. I was like really, my dad has the same tires on his and he tools around the mountains no problem. Sure as sh** a few weeks later I was going down the same road and when I got to the range and started unloading I heard hissing. So I went to get the spare off and the jack out, but I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get the spare tire off. I had left my manual at home because I was reading it. So I jammed up to the top of the mountain to get cell coverage so I could watch a you tube video, you gotta love you tube. I felt stupid, but I hadn't changed a tire on a truck since 1997. I was used to the old style of spare tire retention.

Been there seen that..LOL
I am sure I will find much is different from that old 1986 390 4-speed that I ran through hell's forty acres back in the day. Yesterday was the first day of having the '16 and it terrified me to drive it on a gavel road over 30 mph.
That electric 4x4 switch is also suspect in my book...

Now is a great time to go owner.ford.com and download a PDF version of your manual to every device you own.
