Default License Plate Lights

Hello All,

I recently bought a brand new 2018 F150 Platinum. I noticed that majority/all of the lights on it are led except the license plate lights. What have people done to move the lights from halogen to leds that match the other leds on the truck? Yes, I searched the forums and could not find anything. Thanks for the help.

I noticed this on mine as well. I like it because I feel the LEDs may "blind" the rearview camera.

Sylvania makes a bulb that is perfect and then you just use some black tape to block out the top half of the lens so it doesn't wash out the camera. There are threads here about it but you have to word the search correctly.

Here are a couple:

For the search to really work you need to put open/close quotes around all the words you want to be in order. If you just put LED license plates it will find each of those words in any post. If you put "LED license plates" then it will find them only in that order.

But I will say the LED plate lights are nice and worth it.

Thanks for letting me know how to use the search function better.

So you are saying they are worth it even if it blinds the camera?

I too have an 18 platinum. all lights are LED except the license which I rectified with Diode Dynamic bulbs in pure white.
Matches the other white LEDs and does not affect my reverse camera image at all.

I blacked out the top of my lights. Keeps them from shining up on the tailgate as well as blinding the backup camera. I think the post I was really looking for is on a different forum - it has pics of the black out done.

Maybe the 2015 rear camera is different or position is different than 2018, not sure.
I didn't blackout anything, just swapped bulbs and my rear view image at night is not affected....at least not noticeable to my eyes.
