Arrow Let's talk E load rated tires vs lesser load rating when going to a bigger tire

Guys,

As you've all come across if your looking at going to a bigger tire, at a certain size you can only get an E load (10 ply) tire. Can we get some feedback on how much worse the ride quality becomes when going to an E load rated tire on our F-150's?

I've got the factory 20's and it appears I can go to a 275 60 R20 and have plenty of selection for a lesser load rated tire. But if I go to a taller tire +99% of them are E load rated or higher.

It's pretty noticeable if you're used to the cushy ride of load range C tires.

It's slim pickings finding larger than stock tires that aren't load range E. Nitto makes all terrains in 305/55/20 (33") that aren't load range E. They also make that size in a load range E.

My 2018 has a ruff enough ride without going to an LT tire...so im a P rated tire guy.
If you're gonna tow a hi load then ya go to an LT but be warned that the ride quality will drop - substantially and you will lose fuel mileage.

275-60-20 is about as big as you're gonna find in a P rated across the board. I think Nexen makes a 275-65-20 in a P

My truck came with the Wrangler All Terrain Adventures in C load. I sold them and went to a E load Firestone Destination M/T. Believe it or not, the Firestones are slightly smoother than the Goodyears that came on it. Generally any E load is going to ride rougher though. Now I did lose about 2 mpg's with my Firestones which are also 1.2 inches taller than the stock GY's.

Yeah man ride quality will decline for sure. It’s really not that bad IMO or you’d see more guys backing out of their E tires. You will feel the road more but you just get used to it. When I ride in my dad’s 13 with his stock tires I never find myself noticing or having the difference in ride come to mind.

I have a XLT 157" with the 3.5l and 18s. I switched over to bilsteins and E rated tires a week after i bought it. If you need to tow pump up the tires to accommodate the load if not run them about 40 to 42 PSI and it rides just a smooth as normal. Also, I am driving to and from work this week 14 miles one way mixed city and highway and i am getting 20.8 MPG.

The load capacity for P-metric tire sizes is for passenger cars. If a P-metric tire is mounted on a truck or SUV, the maximum load capacity is reduced by 9 percent. If our P235/75R15 tires are used on a truck or SUV, the maximum load per tire is 2,028 times 91 percent or 1,845 pounds. The total weight for the vehicle should not exceed 7,380 pounds.

Only larger tires I can find above a 275/60/R20 with less than an E load rating is the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 at a 275/65/R20, or the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 and Nitto Ridge Grappler at a 305/55/R20.

Have you seen anyone on here who actually has the G2s (SL not LTs) ? Im very curious about this exact tire but having a hard time finding anyone with actually experience on them. I want a tire in that size ( or 285/65/20) but dont want more noise or a less comfortable ride than the OEM hankooks I have now.
