Huge thanks to patrickoneal for testing this out and sending me the kit. I got mine up and running in less than 15 minutes. If you have an XL 101A like Patrick and I, this is a necessary step after the forscan mod. Ford cheaped us out on a few inches of wire, but it is super easy to fix following Patrick's excellent write up. For awhile I was disappointed that I went the factory route because the bed switch was not working and now I am super happy with the clean OEM look.
Livinitup, thanks so much for helping us both with the wiring on these trucks.

15 minutes? I think it took me that long to finally get the wire through the boot . Did you end up using positaps at both ends? I was guessing that there was enough room behind the headlamp switch to use one there.

Glad you got it working.

Yes, I used positaps on both sides. I figured it was good enough on the inside and under the hood there is no way i had room to get in and solder it.

I'm sorry i'm a little confused. Is this an issue when you are using forscan? Or does it work fine when activated with the IDS?

I have a 2017 XL, STX package, I have access to an IDS though and was planning on putting this in today.

It's an issue of wiring so IDS would have the same issue as FORScan. You're lacking the correct wiring in the harness in an XL for it to be as simple as being activated with FORScan/IDS. Post #1 in this thread explains it.

As I read it, you're likely missing a wire and for all it CAN do, FORscan can't add it for you. :-)
If you don't have the wire all the way you will have to add one as the OP did in his excellent writeup.

As others have said, you're likely missing the wire that goes from under the hood into the cab and to the headlamp switch. Myself and others with 101a trucks were missing the wire.

You can install the kit and enable it with IDS or forscan. After doing so, try the bed switch and the cargo light switch located on the interior headlamp switch. If the lights work from the cargo light switch on the headlamp switch, but not from the bed switch, your truck is likely missing the same wire as the rest of ours.
