Leather seats - Lariat vs Platinum
#11
I went Lariat for the tan leather. Also, here in the snow belt those retractable running boards rust pretty bad. Already a member on here posting about it. As for leather quality, only the King Ranch gets the real leather. Platinum is same as Lariat, just different stitching patterns. And yes, the tailgate is horrid on the Platinum.

I to have been comparing the 2 models.
My issue is I want a SuperCab with all the options but the highest trim level is a loaded up Lariat.
So far I think the only thing that I would miss is the massaging seats.

I like different options on each truck but Ford wont let you build them that way. I don't like the Platinum tailgate, chrome mirror skull caps, chrome door handles, fake wood trim, or power running boards. I do Like the Platinum wheels and grille(with painted black grill area) and bumper to match. So ordered a Lariat and swapped out a couple parts, very pleased with the look. We find the Lariat seats to be very comfortable.

Yeah I do know for sure the platinum wood is real and the Lariat is fake which doesn't matter to me. I have heard that the aluminum interior accents are real aluminum and not painted plastic like on other models, but I cannot find this advertised or actually written anywhere. I've tried searching but any time you google "F-150" and "aluminum" in the same sentence the entire internet tries to talk abou the new body panels.
I really like the front end on the platinum best, like Ddeevers said, the way the grille goes with the painted bumper end caps, it just looks so manly.

Lariat has a stiffer leather, which felt more synthetic to me. I suspect it will hold up to more abuse than the Platinum leather will.
Platinum feels softer, more like the leather that you would get on a pair of nice work boots.

The leather is definitely different between the Platinum and Lariat.

Does anyone have any input on how the King Ranch leather compares to these?

Brensketheblade - (first sounds like you're in the military?? If so, THANK YOU for your service!!!)
2nd - i bought a 2015 Lariat and don't regret a bit... to me the expense for the Platinum just isn't there (this is also where ford makes it's biggest profit as they just don't have much more than lariats, but sure give you a price tag that says so)... Mine has leather bucket seats, Nav, locking rear, sliding window etc... (could get pano roof etc as extras on lariat and still save thousands)... Mine was 48 MSRP - paid 37 for it... so a great feeling to have so much truck for not TONS of cash - just made more sense to me to go that route...
But to each his own! And they're knocking off tons on Platinums now too... even if they have nicer leather - you can get seats done for about 1500 with top leather if that's the driver... but to me, i still want to be able to use it as a truck and not worry about it getting dirty etc... if i end up putting too much money into it - i'll start treating it like a mercedes then lose the functionality that makes a truck a truck

I went with the lariat sport for one main reason.
I can't stand the way brown wood grain looks on black interior. Just preferred the look of silver accents in the sport models interior.
